The "Bird" is the word; I live in the UK, if I bought a ticket to your raffle could I leave the bike at Davids and say come across the pond once a year and go touring on it? I owned a bird for a few years myself and regret selling it.

We may not be able to change the world for everyone, but we can change it for some people that really need it. I'm in, even if I have no desire for that Honda.

Not many helped my mom and I when I was growing up. Not much family involvement or assistance. No child support from the time my parents split when I was 18 months old. Some of my mom's friends tried to help, my "big brother" from the Big Brothers Big Sisters program was a huge emotional help, and my former stepfather definitely TRIED to help but by that point I was an angry teenager that still had issues about how he treated his ex. But the biggest help for me as an adult, aside from my mom always doing what she could, was my ex-step-grandmother. Even after my mom had gotten that second divorce, her former mother in law was more family to both of us than frankly most of our blood relatives combined. When I lost my job in 2002, she took me in until I found a new job and could be independent again. She wasn't even family at that point. But she CARED, and she unquestionably saved me. I also learned a huge amount from her, took my first trip overseas thanks to her, and I truly grieve her passing last year.

So yeah, while there's limits to what I can give, I'd GLADLY give a bit for something like this. It helps people that were even worse off than I was. My own struggles may have been mild compared to many, but they were still rough, and I wouldn't want anyone enduring even what I did.

And good on you for helping provide a voice for all of this. It MATTERS. You really are helping to make a difference in ways that few people can. HELL YEAH.

I’m hoping to fly out to tampa from the U.K. in the next few months to do a road trip to LA, with some city detours along the way. Where locally would you recommend to buy a cheap second hand bike that can still help me make that journey?

One of my coworkers had one of these, he raced a semi down an off ramp and lost.
IT was a gorgeous bike, he hung up his riding gloves after that and traded them for drag racing.

His wife may or may not have had something to do with that choice.

Remember getting to sit on one as a young teenager it belonged to a very wealthy neighbour with lots of toys, For a few years now Blackbirds have been very low money bikes in the UK I mean £2500 would get you a really clean one with luggage ready to tour.

Really hope you guys can get the money together for the house.

If I win the Blackbird, I will be donating it back to David.. After a few weeks to ride it.. lol.. As a 90's kid (born 81).. I had this bike on a poster in my bedroom as well, and dreamed of the speed, but my first bike was a new 06 cbr600r, delivered to me out of a pickup from a dealer in Michigan with huge discounts in the back of the old Auto & RV magazines that we all used to look at for the used market, at least we did here in Indiana/Midwest.. then in 07 had to upgrade to the cbr1000rr, so I could ride 100+mph wheelies, lol.. Still own it to this day, but it usually receives about 200-300mi a year. Its sat like that ever since I rode a friends Harley..This was 2013.. I made fun of them for years, dogged them as being old, slow, overpriced.. Within 90days of that first ride I got a 2010 street glide used with only 3500mi and still own it to this day as well.. It now has 60k miles, it was stock for a year then s&s cam, air cleaner, & v&h pro pipe.. Then at 38k miles I replaced the top end to 107 cu inches at 10.75:1 comp, big ported heads, big zippers cam, s&s throttle body & inj, new legends shocks front and rear, new 21ft & 18rear Kruesi wheels, new SP Concepts 2into1, all new risers & protapers foot controls & boards, ect.. I was wanting a new bike, but kept my old trusty, and spent about $13k on building it to a modern looking beast, the old twin cam sounds like a race car since going high compression & hi lift cams, made 126hp/135tq.. so better than a stg2 M8.. or equal to a 24 stg2.. My dealer only wanted to give me $7500 for trade on it last year, and with trade was still going to be over $30k for the 23 street glide ST.. its been paid off for 8yrs and not cost me a penny so I kept it spent $13k modding it, and have an amazing 2010 bagger, thats one of a kind and bad ass to ride.. and epic 07 CBR1000rr.. Two legends in the biking world to this day IMO.. They both make me smile every time I enter the garage..

Fun. Heavy 1997 so, carbs. As I got older the riding position began to be a pain. I had enough projects, so I sold it.

Watching this makes me cry, but not because of feeling sadness, but because there are people who have the luxury of not caring, yet they care so much and dedicate their life to the purpose of taking care of the forgotten. I am a parent to a teenage son, who is extremely rebellious, who doesn't take advantage of everything I have provided for him to be successful. Who fights against every word I say and who is not accepting and revelling against any help to finish high school. Some kids have it all and they choose to fight against those who love them, these kids had no one to love them, yet they strive to make a better future for themselves. That is something I will never understand. I struggle every day to teach my son values and discipline. Nothing works. But I am glad there are kids outthere who came from nothing and want to improve. Kudos to those who care. Because I know what it's like to care so much.

I made it to a girlfriends house, Jacksonville to Daytona in 50 minutes. I still don't understand why helicopters weren't chasing me.
These days I'm a hi viz daddy on a GS, maybe 1 life left.
