if i take an atom that only has a Proton, Electron and Neutron and fire it at a dark patch... then the readable results only measure a Proton and Electron coming out of the other side, Well, I know there is something there... without being able to see it. Light is bent towards a Black hole some of the Atoms get so close they have parts stripped away and the measured results tell us there was a change.

first of all, we can measure light speed and second of all we find blackholes by the effect it has on other objects not by looking for it.
