Good gracious, my mother was a devoted fan of this programme especially Elsie Tanner and Eric Barlow. Ena Sharples and Hilda Ogden. We only had two channels of tv at the time and in black and white of course. I am 65 years old and not in my dotage but watching these scènes I can remember the stage names of many of the actors. Oh that's Annie Walker and that's Betty, there's Albert Tatlock etc...I've lived in France and Belgium for many years now and haven't followed it for years. But since lockdown in France I have been catching up on my past and hoping for a future.

The Elaine Perkins thing is amazing; could never have worked because she was more than a match for him in every way - including acting - they kind of cancelled each other out.

What gets me is how self-conscious Ken has always felt about his background. Characters with such shaky self-esteem are quite rare nowadays in Corrie. Sure it's used for comedy like Sally trying to be posh, but it's not the same thing.

Makes me laugh that years into the future from this, Ken bragged to Peter that he would never have left him in the house to go get cigs when Peter did that to Simon, short memory that one, Ken was as bad a father as Peter was

Been watching the 80s coronation st and I must say Ken Barlow was the least natural actor on set. Even his entrance into a room was totally contrived. Other actors put him completely in the shade.........

Oh this brings back memories , my mum died in 1971 and I remember watching Val’s death in bed with mum , I was nearly 10 years old and we both loved Corrie . Such bitter sweet memories, RIP mum 🕊️. Loved all these old characters , and God Bless Bill Roach he’s a national institution…. By the way, I remember hating Janet , this hasn’t changed my mind 😂
