Companies that sell drinks in bottles in plastic could be making them thinner. That would reduce plastic pollution and cut costs

90% of people including children are obese, very overweight, or overweight, and very, very few people can walk 5 miles non-stop.

Put out cereal dispensers in all public schools.

Nearly 100% of ocean garbage comes from poor countries that dump it in their local rivers.

Don't feel guilty, just support those new companies that are scooping up garbage out of the 1,000 rivers containing almost all garbage.

We've got to start to didposing of plastic responsibly, even it were jus meled down and conglomerated into blocks that could be buried somewhere this would be a great improvement.

Climate change is totally different from plastics pollution which is being done by human activity. Because climate change is not by human activity but by God, warning us all that the end times is at your door.

I remember sometimes camping at this place we called Garbage Beach in Hawai'i. The garbage was more sun bleached and rubbed down like sea glass, and rather pretty in terms of plastic trash. You could see that so much of had come from Asia based on writing on some objects. As well, some you could see was from the 90s or 80s. Craziness...

Why not make cheap car companies mass manufacture robots at the rate of 10 million units a day and have them programmed with AI that cleans up 🏖️ beaches and neighbourhood streets 24/7 non-stop. The operation and maintenance of which will create innumerable Jobs.

The only visual evidence for this claim that I've managed to find online are photos and videos of floating garbage the size of a football field or two. Where's the vidual evidence of this "Pacific Garbage Patch" twice the size of Texas and why can't one find it online? Does it even exist?

Lots of speculation and guessing. Good to see some answers. The great Pacific garbage patch is what, some 90% from
China and India. Did I remember that correctly? If so, perhaps better to donate to someone working in those nations than trying to ban straws or bags locally.

I have news for you, the patch that you show near the west coast of America is not from America. Most of it has been shown to come from Asia, especially China. You seem to have intentionally left that out of your story.

This planet's health should be humanity's top priority above everything else. It is our home Not sure why billionaires want to fly to a non-life planet like Mars when we live on paradise...if we just clean it up. Wish billionaire would invest in this planet. Wish society would put the health of the planet as a top priority. I heard from someone who just got back from the Indo Pacific islands and they said the island beaches are littered with plastic, washed ashore. There is no excuse for humanity to not resolve this problem.

I don't get it. Plastic is by no means a necessity...BAN IT. Vendors should be sued for being the opposite of help by collecting recycling money while preventing recycling

From my childhood days, I have been dreaming of starting a FMCG mega Corp that has the entire supply chain from production to distribution that only refills your container, be it detergent liquid or milk rations. Customers would have to bring a non plastic container, get it filled and pay up just for what they get. No shiny sachets and wrappers, no packaging waste. If at all any packaging is needed, it would be bio degradable, the ones that simply disintegrates in water and doesn't poison the water.

Seems like and endless cycle unless all plastic is non existent. We pick up the trash and put them back in to plastic bags that will potentially end up back on the same beaches we just cleaned.

i see the long term solution being to tax plastic producers, they will try to pass the cost to consumers, that's where we subsidise and invest in plastic alternatives, like biodegradable plastics like seaweed based plastics for instance

This is why landfills are a good thing. Plastic came from oil in the ground, back under the ground it shall go. Washed up as plastic sand is nobody's idea of a good time. There needs to be a verified supply chain for disposing of materials, laundering as recycling has got to end.
