Boss HM-2 brutal DM Tone

Für Slam Death Metal doch nicht... Der HM-2 all in Sound ist der klassische Dismember/Entombed/Fleshcrawl Sound, also eher melodischer Death Metal. Für Slam Death oder Brutal Death oder Tech Death whatever nutzt man Rectifier oder 6505 wenn man klassisch bleiben will, ich hab jedoch auch schon Diezel, Engl oder hochwertige Ampmodeler wie das Axe-FX oder das Line 6 POD Pro X3/HD auf solchen Konzerten gesehen. Dennoch bleiben klassische Ami-Amps im extremen Death Metal das Maß der Dinge.

tech death hat soundmässig so genau gar nichts mit slam zu tun. im tech brauchst du definition und tightness (daher häufig engl, zb bei necrophagist), im slam pures chaos mit fuzz, distortion, zu viel gain und zu viel bass. das geht zum beispiel mit recto gain auf anschlag, tubescreamer vorne ran, eq vorne ran mit geboosteten tiefmitten und bässen und dann gibts so was wie den sound von bloodbaths ressurrection through carnage album.

yeah, but if you had an engl invader, would you use the lead channel on the amp or a boss metalzone on the clean channel? latter would be pretty much fucking up the amp and wasting its capabilities.

1. Bloodbath ist kein Slam Death. 2. Mit Recto Gain auf Anschlag stimme ich dir nicht zu, eher 3/4 oder 1/2 auffem 6505, Tubescreamer nutzt man eigentlich immer, genau wie ein EQ, wenn man es sich denn leisten kann... 3. Das Ressurection Through Carnage wurde soweit ich weiß in den Sunlight Studios aufgenommen, d.h. der Sound ist ungefähr so entstanden wie Lammert es hier vorführt. Boss HM2 auf Fullblast in den Amp und davor noch ein OD, der Amp dabei nicht zu verzerrt. Schwedische Säge...

That's an irrelevant argument. 1) This is a Plexi. There is no possible way it can get this type of gain on it's own. It would be redundant with an Invader, because the Invader can do high gain on it's own. The Blackface or the Frontman can not get the gain the DS-1 can provide on their own. 2) The Metalzone is a piece of shit. The HM-2 is a high quality MIJ pedal. Even if you did run it into the clean channel on an Invader, it would produce a different sound, and it wouldn't sound bad.

see? depending on what pedal you can waste the amps capabilities. and who said we're talking about plexis exclusively. with your last sentence i agree, looking for a hm2 myself for this slam sound. but as i said, running a shit distortion pedal into an amp with an amazing lead channel would be pretty much fucking up the sound of the amp.

Great tone! Sounds like a chainsaw trying to cut through a brick wall! I run a Boss HM-2 into a Soldano Avenger 50 to a Splawn 4x12 cab and it gets a similar tone to yours. Good work, cheers!

I've got a similar singal chain to yours, starts from the guitar ;) Les Paul => Input Boss NS-2 Send => Blackstar DistX => Boss HM-2 => Input AMP => FX-Loop AMP send => MXR EQ => Return NS-2 => other FX => return FX-Loop AMP (im using a small Blackstar Amp, 1x12 Vintage 30) I've got no problems with the gate(3 o'clock), even when the hm-2 (all 10) is pushed by the DistX. Do you use the send/return-funktion of the NS-2? Try, its way more effective! Excuse my poor english, greetings from Germany.

yeah, loving the TS. the amp was dirty to begin with. I sometimes use the MT2 in front of a Rectifier or an Uberschall, drice alsmost all the way off, tone knobs set to 10:00, level to taste = Instant CC like death metal tones

I don't remember the settings....but it should be possible to make them out in the video I think

terrible sound...... oh my god! I had a metal zone but I think it really sucks.... tube screamer + lead channel of high gain head = best solution.

Thanks for the reply but I should actually ask how you can use both pedals at once without a lot of noise. Do you use a noise-gate or another pedal? I tried to use both my DS-1 and my HM-2, but I got alot of horrible noise. If you can help, Thanks!
