LUXURY FOR LESS?? -- 2024 Mazda CX-90 vs. 2023 Acura MDX: Comparison

I will always choose the mdx over its competitors. Not cause the others don’t create great if not better cars, but the mdx goes by the principle if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. My 18 year old mdx shares the same 3.5l v6 that the current generation has. For longevity and reliability sake buy the mdx and if you’re gonna do any of the newer options lease.

Mazda anyday...

Just picked up my new CX-90 Turbo S Premium (not Plus) today. Got it for 55k in Artisan Red w white interior. Beautiful!! Yes, the MDX felt a little smoother and quieter in ride but not significantly enough. The Mazda handling and acceleration is a total pleasure. The Mazda’s infotainment dial and buttons beats the MDX’s touchpad hands-down. Really looking forward to some road trips along with daily driving.

The Mazda CX-90 is just nicer. If you live close to a Mazda dealer, that is an important box to check though!

I drive a 2015 BMW x5 diesel, and love it so much! I get over 650 miles with a full tank! I drive ALOT from home to work, and the MDX has the worst MPG in the market!

Decisions, decisions….

I’m not sure how I would feel going from a BMW to a Mazda 🫣 but my husband saw the CX90 on the road the other day and absolutely loved it!

Both look very nice but For my money it’s the MDX,
I am not a big fan of turbo specially with that inline 6 and complicated repairs,

I’m loving the CX-90… The MDX is a bit compromised in the interior IMO, both in terms of dimensions and materials. It feels smaller inside than it should be for a tall 6’2” beefy man like myself. I haven’t tried the CX-90 yet… But I plan to wait the next model year for first year bugs to be sorted.

Just purchased a cx90 last week. Previous owner to a Lexus and MDX and I’m so impressed with the cx90 this car and look forward to driving it everyday.

Don’t think that the Mazda is upscale, although they’re trying to be. The interior is very bland.

Mazda wins. I'm someone who wants driving to be fun; Mazda has always made cars that you can have fun driving without going to jail. Also, the fuel economy is a big deal for me. And, Mazdas tend to be gorgeous.

use acura mdx type s ultra is better

Given that the cx-90 is a hybrid that suggests that there are possibly lithium ion batteries on board. I would be concerned about the fire hazard. Other than that it seems like a very good car.

The Mazda is a beautiful car, BUT... that front grille is so "plain and boring" looking. All manufacturers are using great shapes on the grille to represent the brand, yet, Mazda looks UGLY and insignificant.

Previous MDX interior was so dated, but they definitely improved it for the latest model. Still, Mazda’s interior is leagues ahead.

Just bought our CX-90 and absolutely love it. Some people complain about the price compared to Hyundai/Kia. I looked at all 3 in my market.... All Palisades I looked at would only sell at MSRP and Kia dealers were adding $2-5,000 on top of MSRP for Tellurides ("market adjustment" LOL - SEE YA KIA) Mazda CX-90 not only sold for $1500 under MSRP... on top of that you can get 0.9% or 1.9% financing from Mazda depending what trim you go with. If you weigh everything, especially if you are one of us 'common folk' who need to finance cars, you really can't beat the Mazda CX-90

Toyota, tesla and mazda will charge you remote start up and keyless entry with a paid subscription, tggats Bogus! I'm going with the Acura mdx!

Mazda putting the timing chain in the rear of the engine is a deal breaker for me. Also getting to the fuel pump is a problem.

I am genuinely surprised by your Toyota experience. But I believe you as you seem to have done your due diligence.
What year is your CX-5? Overall, I believe that is a great choice - and likely built in Japan (you should see a J at the beginning of the number on the little plate that is seen when you open driver’s door).

Whoever believes on the C NUT guy who thinks he has a crystal ball assuming this car is going to have a big expense just because of the timing chain being at the back, and assume it will need a replacement,, think twice... chain is more durable than a timing belt that needs to be replace every 100k kilometers. CCN put a biased videos.. toyota mechanic shouldnt talk against other brands engineering.

Nice comparison and saved me from buying a MDX, I was so much in love with Acura but when I realized when their is No vents in the third row its clear Loser ❌for me, I dont want to make children or guest back in hot environment, its funny charging 65k and no vents in third row

Took a Cx home today! Very impressed. First half tank gave us nearly thirty one mpg.

I picked up a CX-90 S this week and just love it. I was tempted by the MDX as the tech package trim is only a few thousand more, but I just really dig the look of Mazda inside and out.

Nice thorough comparison. The road noise is a pretty big factor for me. Were it not for that, I’d say the Mazda all day.

I maybe wrong but isn’t the timing chain in the CX90 in the rear of the engine? This would be very expensive when it came time to change it, as they have to drop the engine!

Canadian here and i have a 2010 mdx. It is a tough car to beat for winter driving conditions. The super handling awd is top notch.

Nice review from two people wearing Mazda dealership nametags though) I wonder if it is biased in any way? regular MDX is also faster 0-60 (6.4 vs 6.5) and the acceleration test for Acura was not done at all, just 4000 rpm.

Pretty sure it will be a money pit. when it come to fix it there no room to work under the hood you will need to remove front bumper and lot of grey area to be consider before Buying this suv .

I wonder if the sound decibel test would have been different if the sunshade was closed on the Mazda.

To change the timing belt on the CX-90, you must first remove the engine.
