JP is the man as far as I am concerned, I was shocked when he retired, I really enjoyed watching John and was delighted when he won the world champs.
But despite his retirement from matchplay we still get his ready wit in his commentary and he was on form during this video.

I'm a tiny bit surprised that when J.P brought up today's middle-pocket potting standard, he didn't elaborate on Stephen's. Stephen's middle pocket stuff was so relentlessly excellent, accurate and brave that I'm not sure I've seen a better player at those shots since.

I remember going to see Stephen play Steve James at Doncaster in the early ninties, Stephen was terrible that day anyway on the way in to the venue can't remember what it was called JP was coming out of some room i remember thinking thats JP didn't realize how tall he was, i must have been 16 at the time, Steve James what a player.

i met John Parrott in 1988. 89 maybe. you'll remember this John if your reading this.. you had a niece who lived in Runcorn and she went to the same juniors school as me in Palacefields. you came and visited the school one afternoon to sign autographs. dont know if it was before or after you won the world championship. (you was the first famous person id ever met) me and my whole family loved seing you on A Question of Sport too :) and a fellow Evertonian

JP lost to Ray 13-12 in the '85 Worlds QF. Remember the post-match interview on TV afterwards really well, JP addressed one of his old school teachers and said that Ray had taught him more in one match than the teacher had in years of school.

The problem with John is I don't think he even watches any Snooker, apart from when he is at the BBC working,as he never seems to know much about player form that season.
