I just turned 49 and when I was just a kid I used to watch him on PBS all the time. It's great to see his videos again. They are timeless....

I must point out that Rick is wrong when he refers to the neighborhood as "the Spanish quarter".
Quartieri Spagnoli does NOT mean the Spanish quarter, it means the Spanish quarters...as in barracks. 
They were built to house Spanish troops in the days of the Spanish Viceroy when Napoli was ruled by Spain.

Heading there in September. Only get a day (part of a cruise) but will certainly hit Pompeii and make time to stroll around Naples and get some pizza!

Interesting to watch this and remember my multiple stops in Naples during my time in The Navy back in 1974 and 1975, what was a Mediterranean cruise without a stop in Naples? I did the tour of Pompeii with a side stop at the place where they made cameos and picked one up for my mother. We did the hike up Vesuvius and it was a nice view of the area. Coming down Vesuvius I did have to urinate really bad and I can say I left a little something of myself behind. My father also was in Naples in the Navy during the war for pit stops, don't think he ever mentioned Pompeii.

I love hearing from you as you are most intuitive and knowledgeable about travel.

fiinally did it! I just returned from Italy yesterday. I did visit Naples and of course Pompeii. What an impressive country Italy is! I totally loved it and can't wait to go back. Thanks, Steve, for all your good advice.

Hey Rick, Always love your videos. Thanks for all the info. I'm flying from Naples to Palermo for short trip and I don't want to take my big suitcase. I also don't want to leave at my hotel as I will not be going back into central Naples (staying at capsule hotel in airport). Is there a place at airport I can store my big suitcase?

In Europe mainland yes vesuvio is only active volcano, don't forget teide in the canary islands.

Have to say that it would be very hard for a tourist to spend a few days and see as much of Naples and Pompeii as what's in this video. Rick Steve's is my favorite travel channel, not only for the knowledgeable & entertaining contents, but also for Rick's witty & clever dialogs that stay away from sentences starting with "I", which makes it even more interesting than many other channels' contents.

I lived near Naples in the early 70’s. BTW Hurculiam is far better preserved than Pompeii. Go see. Further south are Greek Temples in Paestum. Have lunch there so beautiful mmmm
