What about the french project "qwant"? At face value, it also is very privacy oriented, is hosted in Europe, and from what I experienced so far, works very well and fast.

Why is crypto a bad thing? if we're talking about privacy it's a good thing to promote, and yes, you could say most of crypto is a scam, but that's why we need to learn about it.

With DuckDuckGo their Russian censorship was a deal breaker for me. If my search engine is openly willing to censor ANY info, what else are they willing to censor. I've seen lots of people wave is away saying, "But it was about RUSSIA!" Doesn't matter. No thanks.

StarPage has the worrying problem of interfering if someone used a VPN. Every 4 or 5 searches your computer will get blocked for some amount of time as StartPage detected a VPN in use. Why is this problematic? One reason to block people who use a VPN is if StartPage is aggregating user data to sell and a VPN stops them from do that.

Brave was started by a homophobe and I don't want to support that at all. They could have the best search on the planet and I wouldn't use it for that one reason.

So I am still looking for a simple, fast private search that doesn't censor results.

I remember startpage, but i have a really bad image about them. Back in the days when win8 just came out, i fell for a lot of adware (due to me being young) and its gotten set to my default search engine, everytime i startet my computer.

I really like the Brave search engine, but like other browsers better.

DuckDuckGo is just Google without the tracking. They have the same crappy search results that Google has these days, and the same level of censorship. And of course they do, they're using Google's own search. What I am after is a genuine unfiltered internet search. If I want to look up what the alternative media is saying on a topic I don't want that to be barred from my search results and with Duck Duck Go it absolutely is

It's interesting how a person so focussed on privacy and security is turned off by anything crypto related.

Payments are one of the least private things nowadays. Why can't we have an open-source and privacy focussed solution for payments?

Ecosia seems suspiciously dedicated to environment. Too good to be true kind of thing. Like if they can actually do what they claim why aren't there more companies doing it?

I will say for Yandex it's great on image search in that it actually gives you different results. Most engines just give the same few images, but Yandex seems to have a totally different way of curating.

you can get better results by using adblock ultimate and privacy badger.these are browser extensions.

Je pense que je vais rester sur Google pour l'instant, ou au moins réessayer Brave Search, pas grand chose qui donne envie en plus globalement sur les autres moteurs,

I just switched to Ecosia. Something was bugging me with Firefox/Duck Duck Go. I feel better with Ecosia.

I like Brave search and I don’t mind earning free crypto for viewing ads that don’t bother me
