two greatest stress points on a frame are at the front of spring attach points. and at the top of those areas.
ОтветитьHi there, good job on that. I look to do mine also. Which i have to replace the bottom of a channel from the middle. Should i put diamond plate also ? Is it wrong to cut 90° ? It is straight behind the cab both side.
ОтветитьGreat video, looks good.
ОтветитьI'm having my morning coffee and watching you well, absolutely perfect, I wish I could weld as good as you. Have a grate day 😊

Hello, I just got done watching your frame repair video and I'm very impressed with your work on welding and frame repair, I'm in the middle of watching the video, but I just can't begin to tell you how impressed I am, well I'm going to Finnish the video and I will definitely add and subscribe to your channel, grate job keep up the good work and the videos.
Verne Johnson 😊
If this project was my favorite Asian take out I'd call it Dam-Sunnn!!
ОтветитьHave you considered boxing that section
Ответить.
ОтветитьHave a look at Defendermodsandtravels stress analysis of this and maybe save a lot of welding next time!
ОтветитьThose first welds looked a little cold.
ОтветитьDunno, factory procedures call for upper and bottom reinforcement, not a diamond. Just saying.
ОтветитьHey man found your video and find it useful as I'm building a custom frame for a 2020 Ranger.
I need to make many joint welds and the joint you did might work for my build.
I'm going to be using a fully rectangle tube for the frame so will need so split joints for sure.
As I build some rise and bend sections I may have to do some fancy joints to make the angles together.
Anyways take it easy man,
Casey
This is super good work. Though, being in NY, this looks like a super clean truck. It would be interesting to see which direction youd go with one of our trucks.
ОтветитьThat's a nice job. Fish scales, plugs and good welds. It's stronger than it was when it was built, and I bet everything fits together in a snap. I've got a 2000 Silverado frame that's ready to blow away in the wind that I'm thinking would make a really nice series. I can get it to you likety-split, and I DO mean split. 😁
ОтветитьYes this is how my dad helped me fix my 80 chevy frame. Still going today. Gr8 work.
ОтветитьIve got a heavy duty truck I need to fix cross members on. Ive been trying to figure out how to handle it and when i look online, everyone makes this sound like a super daunting task and that frames need to be welded on woth extreme caution because they're made with tempered steel and if you get the metal too hot it becomes brittle and dangerous to drive...is this something you really take into consideration when you're welding your frame up like this or does it really matter? I dont have to worry about the frame rails luckily, but these crossmembers are made from the same stuff im assuming, so I'm concerned about getting it right, any tips would be greatly appreciated.
ОтветитьThanks for the video.. Im trying to buy a 76 Jeep j10. 131 inch wheel base aka 8 ft bed. But the last 2-3 feet of frame and cross member behind the bumper.. are GONE.. paperrr thin. Litterally aent from well over 1.8th thick to paper. The other 85% of the frame is solid and not rusty.
I found a donor 8ft bed frame from a 75 J10.. cant i just take the bed off. And cut the frames C channle just like you did.. and swap ovee the identical c channle section from the good frame.. weld together.. grind smooth. Then use diamond fish plates like you did on the outside and inside.. weld those.. and hell even bolt them together for good measure ? Mine isnt AS long of a section as yours.. mine is after the axle.. but its still got the leaf spring mounts.. and rear leaf spring mounts on it. Thats wjere it needs replacing
Just curious. Because i dont have the means to remove a cabin.. engine. Trans.. axles.. etc.. But i can take the bed off and do this.. this way seems way easier.. but would this comprimise the frame ? To me it seems like itd actually be stronger.. but hey maybe im wrong ?
Been wondering if there's a way to fix the front end frame damage on my avalanche. Seen a couple of these videos now where guys are doing similar things with w.e they need and tacking it in. Considering the insurance company put me at fault when it was the other unlicensed drivers fault and because I was singled put they had numbers over me. Anyways thanks for making the video. Def a confidence boost in this being possible to get my truck back on the road.
ОтветитьIn Australia a fish plate has to be 2x the height of the rail in length for strength
ОтветитьDid you make a long box into a short box?
ОтветитьOnly thing I would do differently is the plates on the sides come to a sharp point, I've always been told they need to be a rounded point.
ОтветитьI've always wondered if a 2.3 wood bolt up to the transmissions they used with the 2.9s to just pull those troubled 2.9 3.0 and 4.0s and put in the gas sipping 2.3s since there are literally millions laying around in every state?
ОтветитьYou have everything stripped-down that far might as well sandblast and repaint the whole thing that way existing rust will not keep building
ОтветитьIf you don't read this and see this before you notice the crack in the weld I hope you catch it in time bottom passenger side
ОтветитьI'm glad you're the trained welder and not me I personally would have built a bracket out of the other frame and welded it from one end to the other over lapping the joint to try and double the thickness and strength and reinforced other pull areas like mounting around the trailer hitch and such. Maybe added extra core supports where room allowed.
ОтветитьWow, nice work. Makes my project look easy now in comparison.
ОтветитьIt’s only good if it is a recommended procedure from the OEM or Engineer or Published from industry such as I-Car.
ОтветитьShould have used some weldable primer behind those plates….otherwise nice work.
ОтветитьYou have it all the way down to frame I'd get rid of the rust and put that stuff like fluid film pb blaster makes it won't rust no more
ОтветитьOK this is cool but first you have to remove the rust for clean welds
ОтветитьBox in joint section. Idk anything disregard
ОтветитьHole in the center of diamond back plate. More weld surface
ОтветитьHarbour freight is a dirty word. The only things American there is the customers and employees.
ОтветитьWhere'd you get the chassis fish plates?
ОтветитьSome 7018 on an arc welder can't be be beat if ya know how
ОтветитьI welded my ranger frame, but not from 2 pieces. I just boxed it with 4340. Only 100 pounds heavier but its stronger than a 1 ton frame now.
ОтветитьNiiiiiice work 🤙🏼
ОтветитьSure hope you addressed the rust on the rest of that chassis? NOW is the time to eradicate it!
ОтветитьThis man knows his business!
ОтветитьGreat showman thanks for sharing. I was thinking of the same thing about my garage. Got a clean that shit out ,garage or for cars.
ОтветитьOnly gripe is I would have whipped the Torch a little more to get some better penetration. That's probably 10 or 12 Guage they use for the frames and I work with sheets that thick everyday and I run it at 20.5v 374ipm on the millermatic 255 for that Thickness and whip her good. You'll be beating those welds up so you should get the best penetration you can, a flat drag just won't do it. Your up hills probably had the best penetration. Fantasy fit up tho. The lack of penetration on the plate closest to the house scares me. You should be getting scale and bluing like crazy for structural welds on plate that thin. Best of luck hope she holds good and strong till she's good and dead.
ОтветитьTry cleaning your medal before welding , what do you think.
ОтветитьThe best video I’ve seen on the right way to repair a frame and your welding is excellent nice miller welder to
ОтветитьNice job on that A.O. Smith frame. Glad to see you used the 19.05mm tooling hole for your alignment. I worked on that frame quite a bit in my 28 years with the company.
ОтветитьGreat job!!! Next time weld something in between before you cut , makes it a whole lot easier.👍👍👍👍👍
ОтветитьHey, look mommy. The guy next door in the neighborhood started a business with no permit again.
ОтветитьIt looks good.
ОтветитьWhy a diamond pattern and not a box in
Ответить
