Which Action Camera Should You Buy in 2024? Insta360 X3 vs GoPro Hero 12 vs DJI Action 4

Which camera would you recommend for soccer games? Still shots and videos.

In normal daylight conditions the OA4 seems to be generations begins the GoPro 11/12. Just look road or snow textures, it’s all been smoothed out / lost. Serious compression algorithm issues. Grass and clouds suffer similar issues looking mushy, almost like someone’s painted them on.

I have to admit I got pulled in listening to all the DJI influencers out there. Sold my x3 with intension of getting x4, wasn’t a bit enough improvement in cropped video for me in the end. Got my OA4 and spotted the issue within minutes, returned it for a GP11 and much happier with the quality. Yes the GoPros will over heat like all action cameras. It just a case of using the correct settings. 4k @ 120fps on a hot day is obviously not a good idea!

Do prefer the Action 3/4 for the 155degree FOV though, and certainly less wide angle distortion.

So you say all three have the same price , so it is harder to choose? No it ain't , none of them 💩💩

Wonderful review, making my future decision a looot easier, so thank you for that! :) I guess I'm going to buy the x3 because of the reframing possibilities, the leveled horizon and that I wont miss a shot. And maybe as a second camera I will add the Go 3 just for the convenience it offers.

Like the GoPro Quick with cloud storage, easy to store there on the go instead of storing it by myself. The quick edits it makes is often at least good enough, so I think I’ll stick with GoPro

So pretty much insta360 go 3 has same video quality as X3 😂 hence the same rrp price!!!

So your saying insta Insta360 X3 captures 2.7k video same as the factory 2.7k on Insta360 GO 3? 🤔 If this is the case im going to refund X3 and wait for X4 or get the Dji Osmo Pocket 3 for $50 difference 🎉

action 4 is still the king. GoPros 1/1.7 inch sensor in the GoPro kills it. action 4 1/1.3 sensor is so much better. x3 is awesome for cycling/biking videos but action 4 has a more cinematic look an better quality. GoPro 12 needs a major refresh.

Inta 360 works the best for me. I’m not a pro, just an average user. Thank you for the video.

Owned different versions of all 3 cameras. GoPro most durable, Action best video and insta least durable with worst video quality.

How about the Action 2 with water proof housing. Great tiny camera with 4k 60fps for some amazing shots.

The Insta360 Ace Pro looks to be the winner...however a non replaceable lense cover is a concern to me as I ponder my first purchase (whatever I decide will lock me in for a bit on the ecosystem tbh). What is the communities thoughts with a non replaceable lense cover?

which do you prefer in low light, the dji osmo action 4 or the insta360 ace pro?

360 shots are always amazing, but really cant call the x3 an action camera with how delicate you should treat it with those unprotected lenses. also wondering why the ace pro isnt on this list.

I’ll be waiting to see what the X4 vs MAX2 looks like. 4K rendering without having to upscale is primarily what I care about.

I have insta360 X3 ..... For 360 videos and photos it's one of the best..... I love it. But output video is 1080p only. Rest is upscaling. It's the limitation. Single lense 4k is no where near 4k quality.

For 4k 30fps or 60 fps videos you will need an action cam or pocket 3 or larger cameras. X3 cannot deliver those videos.

For action camera I will go for DJI Action 4

For me, it's the DJI Pocket 3 and the Insta360 Ace Pro. Done

The X3 creates shots that are really dynamic and impossible to get without a full filming crew following you…
I compared the footage from the X3 vs the Ace pro yesterday during an evening run in the rain. Quite an extreme case. Conclusion:
The x3 showed some artefacts when I was bouncing up and down at speed, at a slow jog the artefacts kinda disappeared. I shot in log. While the level of details wasn’t the best, the shadows were fairly clean. Impressive from these half inch sensors.
Only thing I noticed (especially compared to the Ace) droplets of 💦 water tend to accumulate on the X3 lenses instead of rolling off…

The Ace is indeed amazing in low light! While there were stabilisation artefacts with the X3, there were none with the Ace. And with the standard color profile, you could see in the shadows well enough. I think insta360 may have updated smthg regarding the colors, because I didn’t see the over saturation I saw in a number of reviews.

2 different cameras. I agree with you though: if I can only take, it will in 90% of cases be the X3. The shots from this 360 camera are just too fun and unique compared to a traditional point and shoot action cam.
The better chip in the Ace Pro, makes me really excited for the X4 !!!

Note: they’re expensive, but the magnet quick release mounts are very much worth it. Really improves the experience of mounting these cameras in many different places, or simply keep hands free while recording.

Thanks for this one. I have been bouncing back and forth between deciding on the GoPro 12 or the X3. As a "photographer" I believe I have been hung-up on the use of the term "lower image quality" from the X3, but when I watch all the YT footage on my 60" TV I'm not finding much to be picky about. The perspectives easily filmed are amazing. My main use will be filming mountain biking, not shredding down an actual mountain, but more subdued old man riding, fun times with my granddaughter, fishing, hiking, playing with our dogs etc.

You have reassured me that the X3 will be the best choice for ease of capturing what we're doing, and for making fun videos and pictures that are worthy of making a 7 year old giggle.

I just did a video with the x5 action 4 and pocket 2. Action is Def my favorite but each has its use
