The 'pay with plastic' machine is an intriguing idea. But it could also pose a danger that I feel like few people ever talk about, (or at least this is true of North America. I am admittedly not familiar with the culture around this is China, where the machine is used.) Dumpster divers! Those large dumpsters are full of discarded cans and bottles, yes. but they are also full of broken glass, shared-edged tin cans... in a worst-case scenario, possibly discarded used needles. And I have heard of more than one situation of people crushed inside these huge containers when poorly timed with a garbage truck and unable to climb out in time. Obviously, small sidewalk trashcans don't pose this crush hazard. But they are still filled with other dangers. Paying with plastic might only make this dangerous practice far more commonplace.

What if you lose ur phone so you cant tell where ur keys are?

kinda hard to use your smart phone app to find your smart phone.... since if its lost you cannot even use the app.

the traffic light is an idiotic idea. People will just stare at the light and not pay attention to actual traffic and hit the accelerator as soon as the time is up. Good by to grandma who didn't make it to the other side of the road in time.

We had countdown traffic lights in Macedonia, especially in the capital, but they removed them, God knows why. There are still a few left. We now have blinking green lights, suggesting you that the green light is ending. It's pretty cool, but the countdown traffic lights are needed too.

We had carts with calculators but parents always let their kids play with them so they were always broken. Unfortunately they will go through numerous hoops and take forever to get to the US before these wonderful ideas will be put into use. Oh yeah and the price will be so high no one can afford them and insurance will shake their head no so fast it will be a miracle if it doesn’t fall off!

The countdown traffic light isnt really a new thing and is imolemented in several parts of the world. You can see the numbers descending and once it is zero, it will change

The shopping cart calculator is kinda pointless these days. Firstly basically everyone has a phone with a calculator on it now. Secondly, at least over here, we now have self scanner devices. You scan each item as you put it in the cart. It shows you the individual and combined cost (If you purchase more than one), how much you've saved on deals, and your total price.

The shopping cart escalator one: we have belts instead of the stair design for grocery store escalators. They can't be as steep, but have grooves in them that shopping carts hook in to. So instead of a separate shopping cart escalator we just take ours with us on a single one.

I'm Australian and to hear that they had to waste extra materials to build an escalator for shopping trollies is hilarious! In Australia, all of our shopping trollies are the same build and they slip into place on the escalator floor and don't roll back or forward. They automatically unattach themselves when you get to the top or bottom of an escalator.
