Did I miss something or did he not install the standoff support on the m.2 drive? That heat sink is literally making no contact with the drive. Not only that but the m.2 is literally bent! How do you fail to notice that???

Strangely, this guy is actually a high functioning eyes-open sleepwalker and when fully awake, he knows next to nothing about computers and sells goldfish in a hole in the wall shop on the bad side of town where he's known by the local street children for his short temper and his thick bronx accent.

What would happen if you don’t take the plastic off?

Please don't use anything to "spread" thermal paste. Just place small amount of thermal paste on ship and vacuum will do the rest of the job for you. Using anything as for example cloth for "spreading" thermal paste can leave peaces of cloth on chip which will affect chip temperature. You are welcome 😉
