This island is very close and has always been a part of Taiwan, Beijing is defending the Chinese territory when Taiwan got soft on the issue. Why are the Senkaku Islands Japanese territory?

In 1884 (Meiji 17), Japan sent the explorer Tatsushiro Koga to the Senkaku Islands to investigate.
In 1885 (Meiji 18), the Japanese government conducted field surveys of the Senkaku Islands many times through the Okinawa prefectural authorities. At that time, after carefully confirming that it did not belong to any country, including Qing (now China) at the time, it was decided by the Cabinet on January 14, 1895 (Meiji 28) that Japan was a territory of Japan. (Okinawa Prefecture).

In 1945 (Showa 20), as a result of Japan's defeat in World War II, the Nansei Islands, including the Senkaku Islands, were placed under the direct control of the U.S. Forces under Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Powers (SCAPIN)
Furthermore, although Japan regained its independence in the San Francisco Peace Treaty of 1951, Article 3 of the treaty stipulated that the Nansei Islands south of 29 degrees north latitude, including the Senkaku Islands, would continue to be administered by the United States.

After that, local surveys were conducted again, and it was found that the area around the Senkaku Islands contains an abundance of valuable resources, but after that was announced, China, Taiwan, and other countries have claimed territorial sovereignty. No prior territorial claims have been made.

After that, the Chinese side sent a letter of appreciation to the Japanese side, but what was written there was the notation of "the Senkaku Islands, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan", so at that time China believed that the Senkaku Islands were Japanese territory. It is a Chinese consul's 1920 letter of appreciation for the rescue of Chinese 31 fishermen washed ashore in the Senkaku Islands, it was addressed to the officials of Yaeyama District, Okinawa Prefecture, Empire of Japan.
In other words,……pre communist China in 1920 agreed that the Senkaku Islands belonged to Japan…..keeping in mind that there were already 200 Japanese fishermen and their families living on the island before the Sino-Japanese War.
The Chinese communists arrived at a later date, lied, twisted and tortured the truth, faked their history in order to cheat and steal the islands from Japan.
The islands were an easy heist, once China's history was faked, they were able to fake their maritime boundaries followed by their fake islands.This then gave them a fake exclusive economic zone around those fake islands which in turn gave them fake oil, gas, mineral and fish rights, In other words, one lie built on top of another, on top of another, in some ways quite similar to a giant Ponzi scheme with no substance what-so-ever.

Why would Japan warned China when those islands belongs to China? Japanese are land grabbers just like the British in the west. Nothing new.
