5 Linux Terminal Applications You Need

I'd suggest btop - arguably better than htop.
Also fzf is a godsend for finding files.

I used vi back in the day but on modern computers I'd rather use micro.

Tmux is key. People will ask "what terminal emulator do you use?" And my answer is "as long as it runs tmux, I don't care."

Ranger is a nice file manager

Taskwarrior is incredibly useful for keeping track of projects.

I like exa for making my terminal screenshots look 1337.

And finally, moria for when I get bored.

Try glances instead of htop ;-)

Honestly just install a wm like awsomewm or i3 instead of tmux

🔸neofetch - gives you quick overall info and stats about yr system

i am having problems installing timetrap on ubuntu linux terminal. the "gem" command is not recognised by ubuntu. i tried to swap it out with sudo apt-get but with no luck. You have the command line code for timetrap installation?

i find htop ugly. bpytop looks nicer imo

exa is my favourite way to list files, for traceroute and ping there is mtr

you can split terminal windows in just about every modern terminal emulator without using tmux…

ranger is a great cli file manager written in python so you can even modify it if you really want.

Just quitting Vim takes a while to learn.

For most things, pico AKA nano editor is even faster to load.

But you didn't mention, disk recovery tools like TestDisk.

Nice. Subscribed. After Disk Utility screwed up my partitions, thinking of switching back to Linux. These all give a sense of control and confidence lacking on other platforms.

I like micro and mocp a lot. I wish micro would partner with wordgrinder, since if those 2 were combined, the resulting program would make an excellent writing/doc tool. I will soon try vlc in terminal, because some of my playlists only seem to work in vlc.

Well, emacs is the one tool to rule them all. Use shell and dired in within emacs and write own extensions in elisp if packages do not meet the requirements for your needs.
