I recently broke my free to play for the unova tour. Thats its own story with a sad ending. But i like to drive by gyms on my way too and from work at red lights. Im able to drop my pokrmon at Gyms and pray they stay long enough to get my 50coin daily max. Normally i habe atleast 7 to 10 pokemon in gyms at one time.

i think that it’s genuinely dumb that it only gives you 50 coins for holding a gym for a day and then not giving you anymore after that

Definitely check out Campfire and and sign up for the meetups if your area has a community ambassador. I don't know if the prizes they give out are the same everywhere but in our area they give out free raid passes on raid days and free research (the 99 cent ones) on community days.
