Vila do Conde is in the northern part of Portugal with lots to offer. It's smaller but has the beach, many good restaurants, tourism, and more. Josh and Kalie from ExpatsEverywhere talk about moving to and living in Vila do Conde. Could you live here?

Trying to figure out where in Portugal to move to? Kalie does consultations and can help! Book a call with her here: https://calendly.com/expatseverywhere

* ABOUT US *
Josh and Kalie left the US for a life abroad in 2009 and haven't looked back. They have lived in Spain, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and are currently in Portugal. Yes, they realize they only moved to countries starting with the letter "S" until they spoiled that streak with their move to Portugal. Follow ExpatsEverywhere as we aim to get information to you through expat interviews, city breakdowns, expat life, travel, vlogs, and more.

* VISAS FOR PORTUGAL *
We have two courses to help DIY the D7 visa and the remote worker visa for Portugal. The courses include step-by-step videos, checklists, resources, recommendations, discounts, and more. They break down the timeline and when and how to do things, plus give action items to keep you on task but not be overwhelmed. Check them out here: D7: https://expatseverywhere.thinkific.com & Remote Worker: https://expatseverywhere.thinkific.com/courses/remote-worker-visa

Vila do Conde reminds me of Viana do Castelo. Just smaller. Love that outlet mall.

Good overview. "Bad reputation for weather" depends on your perspective. Avoiding the hot summer is a priority for me.

I agree for a few hundred dollars more in rent you get so much more active life in Porto. Plus even though Porto is only 45-50 minutes away, it would take alot of motivation to take that trip each way so would end up most of time in Vila do Conde and only rarely enjoy Porto. Also wish there were no graffitti. I can't stand it.

My friend and I walked the Camino coastal route to Vilo do Conde and crossed over
To the central route. It
Looked like a nice town as we walked through.
I’m thinking of retiring in Portugal. That might me a good place.

Sorry but I can't help myself, peak Karen here. I have been watching you guys on and off for years and I know you guys are practising your vowel reduction but you've had a lot of time to work on this. I'm only a couple of years in here but can do it.

There is an e on the end of Conde, like Continente the supermarket. Vowel reduction doesn't mean it's gone completely but the best way of trying to explain to English speakers is add a little pant at the end with the e. It's not meant to be clipped off entirely, I know it's subtle but it's still there. If you can't handle that then think of the e in "comment", just do a half e.

If you can do a single and double tap r you've won the language!

Maybe there's a video in this comment for you and sorry for being such an arse about it

I really wanted to move to Portugal for retirement but my financial planner just let me know that the new NHR Portugal is considering will not cap taxes on retirement income and that I would be taxed at 37%. That's too much for me. I'm sad that I missed the window for the original NHR but it is what it is. Looking elsewhere now. I loved my time in Portugal! Beautiful place and wonderful people!

This is very helpful, thanks!

I have a few questions:

* could you please remind us what T1/2/3 mean for housing?

* are there golf courses close to VdC?

* are there additional spectator sports...rugby, lacrosse, etc?

* what about electric vehicle charging?

Thank you so much, you are super helpful in my research into possibly immigrating!

I don't understand why everyone that is younger assumes that "retired people" want a "more quiet lifestyle", my husband and I travel the world, we are retired, we work out every day and enjoy eating and drinking and socializing with friends and are out and about constantly....where do you think that just because you are "retired" you want a this type of lifestyle that is "more quiet"....we don't play golf or watch TV all day....we do what we want and love a city life style...so PLEASE stop thinking or saying that if you are "Retired" that you want nothing to do and be in the middle of nowhere! We are like you two...we are vibrant, we like to go out, we love to play with friends, we love to hike, cycle and can't believe that someone in their 40's thinks that someone reitred in their 60's doesn't enjoy a City lifestyle or want to play in a City like New York or Los Angeles, Rome, London, Paris or even shall I say.....Porto where you two live???

I can't believe that you and everyone might I add that are in their "40's" think "retirees need or want a "quieter lifetsyle", we are retired and travel the world, we constantly go out with friends we love to eat and drink and enjoy exploring new places, we do not sit around watching TV or playing golf, we are extremely active, we work out all morning and play in the afternoon and evenings....retirement is NOT what you think it is, we are vibrant, we love Cities including Los Angeles, New York, Rome Paris and dare I say....Porto where you live! So PLEASE do NOT assume that just because your are "retired" that you want a more "quiet lifestyle", we have the same lifestyle as you!

Yep. I just heard someone is renting out his house in carbon beach Malibu for $250,000 per month. You can rent a similar place in Vila do Conde for $2,500 per month and enjoy a way way way better quality life away from karens, widespread crime, and woke mind virus.

This would be the perfect town for me! However, I searched for property to 'buy' and it's just too expensive for me, as I will be living on $1,000/mos. I wish I could afford it! So, I'm still in Bristol, Tn. Your old stompin' ground. Q: Do I have to wait until I have a property and $8,000 in Portugal. to have my in-person interview at my consulate? Thanx! Lilly R.

Have been living in the neighbouring Póvoa de Varzim for about a year. The weather is really something strange. Maybe this summer has been particularly bad but it seems to have had a very high amount of grey/hazy/seafog days and as a result is actually quite cold. Meanwhile driving 10 minutes inland or even further north towards Viana and the weather seems to be far more sunny and 5 degrees warmer. Something to keep in mind if you're looking for sun in the summer!
