I know for sure that House is popular in Europe. When my husband and I were in Paris a few years ago a waiter thought my husband was Hugh Laurie. The waiter said "Mr Raus, Mr Raus?" Eventually we worked out what he meant. Just a pity my husband said no he wasn't. We could've had a free drink or more! In any case my husband is more handsome than HL 😅

A bit sad though he grossly underestimates the degree in which “Europeans” command the English language, especially in the smaller countries, like Belgium and The Netherlands (yes, i am Dutch haha). I really liked Hugh Laurie in House and in Jeeves and Wooster, but singing a Leadbelly song? hmm, I think I'm biased because I am a big Leadbelly fan and much prefer the song sung by Leadbelly. Hugh Laurie can sing and he is definitely a talented musician.

It's funny he mentions Belgium. Half of the country (Flanders) watches tv-shows in original audio with dutch subtitles. The French speaking part has dubbed shows. The Flemish do understand English quit good at a young age.

I am an American and I couldn't love the British "accent" more. And Hugh Laurie.....wow, a never-ending talent. Just loved House and always loved the music he played on House. Did not know he was truly a musician.

Yes, Graham. Americans (me included) do know the nationality of actors we see in movies and on the television. We do not live in a cave...we have evolved since we defeated the Brits and gained our independence. Oh, and a few of us even know who you are.
