Imagine deluxe albums as a vinyl records

I wanna point out Chris Brown’s 2017 album Heartbreak On A Full Moon has 45 songs and the deluxe version has 57. That’s way way way too many.

Chris Brown did one of the worst instances when he dropped a double album, with each disc already being long asf for one anyway (22 on disc 1, 18 on disc 2), then he drops 5 bonus songs, then releases a whole Christmas deluxe edition with 12 new songs. Resulting in 57 songs spanning 2 hours

EDIT: this isn’t even the album that was mentioned in this video. This video mentioned Indigo, I’m referring to his 2017 album. Think it was heartbreak on a full moon?

Gorillas have just done it. Pushed the OG so much then a month or so later they release it with 4 or something extra songs and amazing features like del and de la soul. I guess it's as it didn't fit the theme of the album. But just release one with those songs that don't fit the narrative at a clear bonus at the end. I feel so annoyed as I would have brought the version with all the extra stuff on. But got conned and brought the standard on pre order.

Idk if it's unpopular or not but I slightly prefer the original GKMC cover to the deluxe.

I don't know why but I really don't like deluxe albums. I've still never listened to that deluxe flume album, even though he's my favorite artist and I KNOW I'll like the remixes. I just already know this album back to front, it feels weird to hear a new version with extra stuff

I have never listened to a Deluxe version that was worth listening to > the original.
Imo the songs they usually add in are just cuttingfloor b-sides at best.

There is actually another type of deluxe alblums ultta deluxe where pretty much everything from the alblum is released and is usually like a 100 dollar box set F that ill just use spotify or utube

this is why we LOVE SZA. she takes her time with her projects and just released her 2nd album that yes, has 23 tracks, but 23 beautifully made tracks with no fillers. each song has a purpose and place on the album and the deluxe will give us songs she didn’t put on there and special collabs that actually make sense. sza doesn’t put out BS and that’s why she’s so successful right now.

The Beatles and The Monkees Super Deluxe Editions are amazing (The Monkees ones might be better ngl)

Gorillaz have gotten a bit nuts over their Super Deluxe versions, and for the most part they aren't even worth it! 'Humanz' had too many songs to begin with, but with the deluxe versions it just got insane.
Manic Street Preachers are just as bad. Their anniversary versions have been changing the tracklisting and filling a whole other disc with poor demos and a 3rd being the only saving grace by filling it with B-Sides.

MMESYF deluxe by Denzel this year was what a deluxe should be. A live version of a lot of the songs plus two extras that fit the vibe and key ideas of the album.

Judy glad for the most part the Deluxe versions are easily avoidable and you can just listen to the regular cut.

I hate deluxe albums and almost never listen to them, only if there's a real good extra song and I listen only to that one.

The worst instance of this is when Taylor swift released midnights, and then three hours later dropped a “3am edition” with more songs

i feel like this video is even expanded with baby keem releasing the melodic blue deluxe, which is pretty much a new, shorter, 7 song album

I don't do deluxes. I never stream them, when I see them come out, it's usually way after listening to the original and I have no intention to add 1-10 songs to the original no matter how good they might be. Any good songs added will be saved individually and won't be listened to in the album

One of my favorite deluxe covers is odelay by beck, its like someone vandalized and ripped the original cover and it fits many of the bonus tracks so well

One of my favorite examples of a deluxe edition is Moral Panic by Nothing but Thieves. They added 5 songs that were arguably just as good as the standard album, and rearranged all the original tracks to give a completely different experience listening through it from front to back, as well as fitting all the extra tracks within instead of just pinning them on the tail end. It feels like a deluxe edition that actually had purpose and intention behind it, and I wish more artists handled it like that.
