I think it's the other way around.
They're overdoing it, just throwing everything that sounds impressive at us all the time.

I think if you flip things, if LeBron is 84-03 and Jordan came into the league in 03 with all of LeBron's numbers, Jordan might have been motivated to break them. I don't think they cared about stats very much in the 80s. Wilt did, but even then it was basic, counting stats. Points rebounds maybe assists. 2000s we track more things so that's something else to brag about if you are boastful. I don't think Mike is boastful but I do think LeBron would say something and Mike would take it personally and break all of his records for spite and pettiness 😂
