A fantastic slice of Blue Note hard bop. This band recorded five numbers at the session this came from, and this is the only one of the five that has been released. Two of the others are listed in discographies as "untitled", and "One for Five" may well have been untitled until it was first released on the anthology "The Lost Sessions" in 1999 ("One for Five" seems to refer to the success rate for the session it come from). I'm sure this is one of the sessions die-hard Blue Note fans most want to hear in full, given the band members and the year, but I trust the late Michael Cuscuna's opinion that for whatever reasons, the other tracks just weren't good enough to release. Any of the other four could have been added to "The Lost Sessions" or as a second bonus track on the "Bossa Nova Bacchanal" CD, and Cuscuna loved the music enough that he certainly would have put out any scrap worthy of release.
