I think I've got this down. 240 volt @ 50amps = 12,000 watts a hour to charge this boat. @ 200Kw/h Over night you'll charged this thing about 60% from say 30% sate of charge I think that would be just fine. Finding a 50 amp hookup might not be as common as one would think. 120 volt maxed out at 1.5kwh just might not be enough. I never knew we had fast chargers on the water. I guess @ 800vollt and 100amps you'll be all charged up and if we only had these everywhere we could start running everything on higher voltage.

Hard to estimate the range, but he can tell you a gas boat gets exactly 1 to 2 mpg, but can't tell you how many miles it gets per kw 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 when ever someone beats around the bush like this you know the answer isn't good...

eBoats really do make sense. If you've ever heard that a boat is a hole in the water you pour money into...they're talking about maintenance and repairs. Power boats just are NOT reliable. Small boats maybe, but not power boats. Electrifying them will make maintenance a secondary thought.

I think it’s funny when talking about the range of the boat he says. measuring it by miles is a bad representation but when talking about gas boats he measures its efficiency in mpg not a good representation of gas boats wouldn’t you say?

Just because your from California does not mean you have to charge California prices. This pos is 250k. RIDICULOUS! 👎👎👎👎

No thanks! I'll stick to fuel operated boats.

I normally like the sound of an engine, but not on a boat. It gets so noisy under load you have to yell even on a newer 4 strokes. Once you get to a certain speed, wind noise will drown out everything anyway but until that electric sounds really nice.
One design flaw I see here is the charge port, that doesn't look very protected from rain even with the cover sort of hanging overhead. Wouldn't want any water in there corroding everything.

Obviously not for the average person’s bank account to my way of thinking. $250,000.00+ in U.S. currency add at least 20% up here in the Great White North. I’ll have to stick with my inflatable.😳🙄👍👍🇨🇦. It’s a great boat but…….💰💰

How much does this thing weight? That has to be taken into consideration when towing. I bet you need at least a 3/4 or 1 ton truck to tow it. Most ICE ski boats like this can towed with a 1/2 ton truck.

Technically it would run for about one hour, and less than that at full power. 300+ KW power and ~200KWh batteries.
My concern here is that there is enough batteries to build more than 4 cars (and 500 eBikes) for something that will see very little use.

The marinas with shore power are NOT prepared for these kinds of loads. "Hotel load" is relatively low power, and short duration. Charging your boat will be 240/40A for HOURS. I doubt your dock outlet was run with 6AWG (or better 4) I don't know of any marina with DC charging. I don't want to see the bill for a 20ft! DC charging cable. (or the fire from 250k going through one for an hour)

How many owners are going to shell out for their own CCS charger to sit on their boat slip?

It's a nice boat, and a great idea, but the level of shill in this video is excessive. All the storage space?!? It has basically the same space as any similar boat - under/behind anywhere you sit. It actually has less available volume for storage because it contains an insane volume of batteries. (have him show you one of their battery packs. 226kWh is A LOT of battery. Since everything is measured against Telsa, that's 2+ teslas.) Range?!? I know you're used to testing cars, but asking about range on a boat is, well, dumb. If you putter around at 5mph (boats measure speed in knots), it might go 20,000mi. Put the throttle down to make a surfable wake, and it might not make it 20mi. Like all other EVs, when it's dead, it's dead; call for a tow. There's no switching to a spare / reserve tank. (and 226kWh will take a long time to recharge - more than a day, unless you have a DC fast charger in your driveway)

There's no point hiding who's making the motor, controller, and batteries. The first person who buys one will look under the floor. Might as well say so know rather than let the internet roast your choices later. As for the battery pack, I understand your startup isn't remotely big enough to even talk to a sales minion at LG, etc. But building your own battery pack is a headache you do not want. In production, you'll want those to be a "lego brick" as well.

Thrusters are rare on boats of that size because they're expensive, and run on electricity. Gas boats have very little electrical capacity - a single marine deep cycle 12v battery. Diesels often have generators attached to the engine, but small batteries for when it's off. (I don't know how many boats of that size are diesel.)

The hard top, and retracting into the hull... also not remotely unique. 'tho it might be rare for a boat of this class. (among my circle a rag top is preferred because it's light and ease to remove/replace. if you want to store a dingy or boards up there, put a rails across it.)

You're benefiting from the "economies of scale" from EV technology being a few decades old. Motors, controllers, battery systems are "jelly beans" these days. The only really unique thing ACE has done is layer 226kWh - over a ton? - of batteries into the keel. With any EV build / conversion, the battery is the pain. (and 90% of the expense. in this case 99% - by my math, 8 PALLETS of battery cells.)

For the record, when Tesla started, they didn't know jack about cars. (or EVs for that matter) That's why the converted a Lotus. To this day they still know very little about making cars - which is why everything they design has significant problems, and takes them forever to fix. They didn't know anything about batteries either, just that laptops (tools, toys, etc.) have a handful of little round cells that they can buy in vast quantities for cheap. Today they're still using scores of little round cells, And Panasonic has been the source of those cells / packs. (Tesla may own the building, but Panasonic is doing the work.) It wasn't that established car makers couldn't build EVs, just that they didn't want to; there was no proof of a market for them, and they make plenty of money on gas/diesel vehicles. Now that Tesla has proven that market, they ALL dump billions into making electric versions of things. (Heck, even JCB has EV excavators!)

I get the impression neither of you know a great deal about boats. Boats with inboard engines are not the screaming motorcycle you seem to think. Yes, they're way louder than an EV, but so it a kitchen garbage disposal. (hint: it's electric, too) You may be clinging to memories of the proverbial "evinrude" outboard hanging off the back at about ear level - yeah, those scream. (they also don't burn nearly as much gas... I've spent hours on the lake with just 2 5gal tanks - actually 3, but the 3rd is to get home.)

As I understand it, for a low cycle count battery system (infrequent use), storage voltage will be extremely important. Battery life will be severely reduced by them sitting around for weeks or months at (nearly) full charge all the time. You might not care as much about getting 8-10k cycles out of them (like a car), but them not holding a charge in just a few years is a law suit in the making. A 226kWh pack is very expensive!

(I don't who makes these batteries or what chemistry they are, but ask your manufacturer what the optimal storage level and temperature are. They will have that data... unless you're buying the cheapest things you can find - we did that, have many metal balloons)

The hours of use just not usable metric at all .

The sound issue cannot be underestimated. That is amazing. Always hated the noise of the boat. Hated it. I could only spend so much time on the boat due to the noise. This is game-changing, I would think. I’m not in the target market, but I see the electrification as a huge upgrade.

I know that Out of Spec is into the long format videos, but anyone who's buying ANY kind of wake boat wants to know surfing specific information, and I found this VERY lacking sadly. You barely covered the cameras, and completely skipped through how surf modes and cruise control works, what kind of ballast system they have for shaping a wave, how or if they use hull gates or hull tabs, power wedges, etc. Anybody buying ANY kind of boat wants to know about storage, the controls at the pilots station, lighting, navigation (does this thing have GPS?), and you only showed storage below a single seat cushion? THEN you can get into things like "does this thing do OTA updates like a Tesla?" and "what are the powertrain warranties?".
I appreciate the dialogue about how long it took to bring to market, but can you do that AFTER you've covered the fundamentals?

I'm seriously missing something here, but hasn't the electrification of ships/boats been around much longer than the automotive industry ? Electric ferries, , electric tugboats, electrified sailboats, solar electric catamarans, various DIY kits motor + battery for small fishing boats and rafts simply exist and are used. In recent years even short distance EV cargo boats have been built( Yara Birkeland ).

I agree this seems like the Model S of boats, I hope they'll be able to expand into the less-sexy "workhorse" boats that are spewing pollution every day: fishing vessels, car ferries, water taxis etc. I think there will also be plenty of opportunity for retrofit.

25w to a 98dB speaker is as loud as 400w to an 86dB speaker. If anyone asks "how many watts" to compare speakers, they don't know what they are talking about even if they think they "to geek out about speakers".
Not that it's important to know speakers for an EV channel, but that is very basic knowledge.
Another test is, if someone thinks that Bose makes quality speakers, they generally have no real Clue and are just parroting good marketing.
