This song is what not to play at a High School Dance.

I did exactly that and my best friend Dennis (who I am still friends with in 2024) and I created the Biggest Mass Exodus in Whitman Hanson Regional High School Dance History in March, 1993. About 20 minutes to go before the dance was to end, people heard the riff and heavy metal chords in Grunge/Hip Hop landscape, Eric's drums and Gene's board distorted vocals and ran for the exits and LEFT. No one expected a short flat top haired, khaki pant/Nike Air sneaker/Champion T-shirt wearing Hard Rock fan out of me capable of that. It started with a bad day in school being set up to get suspended for something I didn't do and found out that I was taking the fall for a dude who looked like the one hit wonder Snow. My friend Chuck who was in marching band with me as French horn player (I was of course drummer/percussionist and an Eric Carr/Peter Criss fanatic) informed me about me being set up to get in trouble and he helped me get the suspension lifted as did my now retired Army Sgt father who was in school that day and I told him I got framed and my dad and friend got me removed off the pink slip and my other friend Steve who stuck up for me removed and the Snow lookalike served TWO DAYS over that. Then Chuck informed me that he was debuting as DJ said I could bring an album of my choice to the school dance that night and play a song of my choice, my best friend Dennis picked this after my first choice of Queensryche's Roads To Madness was struck down for being 10 minutes (he was right, the first half would have played but the latter part payoff would have been cut) and he chose the perfect song. That night, my brother JJ's best friend Ted was bullied by the aforementioned Snow lookalike and his clown friends for his Michael Jackson homage and JJ (who bench pressed 400 lbs and was Defensive Linebacker on W-H Football Team when they were a juggernaut) TKO'd the two and I had a couple of punches thrown in and we nearly got ejected but we chose a time out to cool the tempers. My friend Andrea and her friend Sara were unaware of what happened as they were on a field trip that day and I informed Andrea after the Electric Slide (which Dennis, JJ, myself and Ted sat out to calm down) and she said "seems like Terrence when I'm not here, you get in trouble for something you didn't do" and I said "stick around as I'm about to show the bullies and those why I'm the last person to mess with (I have High Functioning Autism BTW)". Then this song hits at 10:40 PM and I imitate Gene Simmons down to the tongue wagging, air bass guitar and Demon stage moves and Dennis, Andrea and Sara and my brother, his then girlfriend Kendra and Ted were cheering me on as I paid homage to the Demon and I kid you not the other 300 someodd at the dance ran for the exits as the song progressed and cars were started and people left in DROVES and only myself, Chuck, Dennis, JJ, Ted, Andrea, Sara, Kendra and two other DJs remained after the song ended and Andrea responded "What was that song" and I said ""War Machine" by KISS" she was like "REALLY, THAT WAS KISS" and I said "Absolutely and the man who sang it was Gene Simmons with distortion, Leslie speaker and flange with VInnie Vincent's batty guitar solo, Paul Stanley and Gene's rhythm guitars and Eric Carr's thundering drumming and I know where Eric is he is smiling down saying "Terrence. great practical joke"". Andrea (who was a R&B and pop fan at the time) said Terrence, you are the real class musician, class Rock and Roller and class Hellraiser despite the fact you don't smoke or drink (like me) and rebel against bullies and teachers but respect your parents and siblings". Dennis and I were rewarded with a slow dance afterwards (Dennis and Sara, Andrea and I) for being the two unexpected unruly boys who played this classic to extract revenge on those who bullied us. Long live KISS.

I thought I was having another psychotic episode when I saw their eyes blinking. Phoned my doctor to tell him I needed sectioning again, then phoned him back a few minutes later to reassure him that I in fact wasn’t crazy. He wouldn’t believe me and is still on his way with his bunch of heavies in white coats. Well I swear to god, with this song blazing, I’ll run through the lot of them! We’ll see who gets put to sleep.
