okay so I want to experience with this, but I'm gonna need your oppinion about my setup. I ride a jones aviator 2.0 which is a directional twin. I personally think it carves really well, however other ppl use this board for freestyle so it is definitely not the best.
Also I have jones bindings and the highback is not adjustable, is that gonna be a big problem?
lastly I was wondering if a setback stance was gonna help because the nose would be bigger, however it is a camber board so if my stance is setback I would not be in the centre of my camber profile.
what do you think, should I go posi posi with this setup or should I leave it at -9 + 24?
This info is absolutely gold.
Question and apologies if you've covered it elsewhere... what stance width are you using for posi posi?
this video is just amazing! started my snow surfing quest recently and this is really helpful! thank you so much
ОтветитьAwesome information and very well explained. Thanks for the good vibes.
ОтветитьHello Lars, thank you for plenty of explation for posi-posi stance. I tried it. seems works better for carving. however would it also good for freeride? like off-piste or powder. How is your option..?
ОтветитьThis was great! I was literally in my living room on my work breaks this morning pausing your video and testing it on a Vew-Do balance board. Took a minute but it started clicking. I think posi/posi will definitely be the direction I move next. Feel like I’m progressing well with carving +15/-6 and relatively flexible hips therefore decent body rotation despite duck stance….but definitely feeling the limitations of duck stance especially on heel edge. I mostly just turn, no park for me (have a wife, kids, business…so can’t be breaking collar bones missing landings haha).
That positive stance will get me where I want to be with carving I think. Just gotta find some snow and start trying it!
I’ll keep practicing in the living room for a few days. Might squeeze in a trip somewhere that still has good snow next month!
BTW, loved the collaboration with you and Malcolm Moore. Two of my favorite snowboarding geniuses! Seeing him on a shorty 164W riding posi/posi a few days ago and figuring out the balance points during that first run was awesome. I might need to have one of those. 😅 I will blame you both when I explain to my wife why I “need” a fourth snowboard.
I watch this vid a few January when i first started snowboarding and i didn't understand really any points. Now i am 2 months and switch to posi posi it makes so much sense!!
ОтветитьI tried Posi Posi for a day and it made the heel carves sooooo easy. However, I felt like I had to throw my hip forward so much on the toe side. I enjoyed it on groomers but once I went off piste, I hated the posi posi.
ОтветитьThank you so much for clear, consistent explanations. All these seem very logical to me.
After five years riding with pos/pos, i've switched to -6/+18 (and -3/+21) this season in order to improve my switch and flat (shifty, straight jumps and so on). To be able to have more fun when "no carving" days/conditions happens. And, yeah, this makes some things fairly easier, but after a one short season with -/+ stance I must say that the pos/pos is just works better for me. I know it's all individual, but I personally feel more control and stability with it. After this video many things have settled in my head. Thank you.
This video is so so good about body positioning on the snowboard. Thank you.
ОтветитьId say Im an intermediate rider and I got my first directional board and I want to try posi/posi for the 1st time. The burton channel system is only allowing +18/+9 because of the size of my boot to reduce overhang. Is +18/+9 a good place to start?
ОтветитьSo so helpful thank you for your insights and instructions
ОтветитьOh im so happy to find it. THIS is exactly the type of explanation I had been trying to find
Ответитьthanks a lot for sharing.. never too old for new tricks ^^
ОтветитьCan you make short, tight turns with a posi-posi stance (eg. riding down steep chutes)?
ОтветитьI did a whole season of nothing but boarding and yet i didn't experiment with my stance all that much. What a wasted opportunity.
ОтветитьThe double posi stance makes me think of boxing or taekwondo and stacking the feet in those sports can throw you off balance side to side too, so we are taught to keep the back foot a few inches to the side of the front foot if that makes sense so I’m wondering if we should put the rear binding closer to the toe edge and the front binding closer to the heel edge to mimic the fighter’s stance and added balance side to side.
ОтветитьGoing posi posi tomorrow, from 18/-12 to 21/6, it feels like I can still control my board the way I used to if I need to during adjustment period.
ОтветитьHow long did it take you to transition from duck to posi posi?
Ответитьvery well explained!
ОтветитьThis was such a great series. Thanks!
ОтветитьGreat explanation and reminder how to setup and adapt the technique
ОтветитьI used to skateboard when I was younger and did so at a slight positive angle on the front foot and neutral (0 degrees) on the back foot and it was the most natural thing in the world.
I’m 4 days into my family skiing trip where i ride +12 / -12 on a fun.kink camber board and my back knee already hurts more than it should. Watching this video it dawns on me that i do a lot of twisting in my back boot (and prefer it to be quite loose because of it) since i’m trying to force a more open stance through my turns with my hips - but my stance is actually working against me riding better carves, as it turns out.
I do like to run the pow and beat up pow, so tomorrow i’ll try to keep the +12 and go 0 on my back foot and work from there.
Can’t even remember why I went with duck stance to begin with. Maybe because it’s how we stand solid - like how you stand on your carpet when facing the camera.
I’m excited for tomorrow 🤟🏻
some great advice
ОтветитьWanted to share my journey this past weekend with posi-posi. I am 6’3” 220 and yesterday I was riding my Nidecker Mosquito. Been riding for 20+ years, 10-15 days a year, always +15/-12, and I ride directional boards never switch stance. I grew up surfing and have been stalled out the past couple years and have been specifically trying to develop my carving. I have been nerding out on your videos and this past weekend was a good opportunity to play around with setup. I started at +21/0 and did a green run. I was shocked that it didn’t feel weird. I was expecting to feel a bit out of control, especially at slow speeds, but that didn’t happen at all. I was really focused on the hip pinch and arms to engage the turns. Feeling emboldened, I then went to +27/+6 and narrowed the stance and left it there for the rest of the day and rode the whole mountain. I felt like my body wanted more angle out of my front foot but I decided to let it be. The only place that I felt uncomfortable was tight tracked out crud snow and I think it was more in my head and getting used to the new setup. What I did notice was at the end of the day the outside of my back knee had some pain. Moving around, I figured it was me putting torsional load on the back leg, basically me trying to force myself back into duck stance.
All in all I really loved the feel and can’t wait to get back out on the mountain. I would encourage anyone interested to play with their stance, it costs nothing and might unlock experiences you didn’t know you wanted or find that which you have been looking for. On a side note I ordered a Biru through your link yesterday.
This is an absolutely incredible video, showing the physiological impact of the different stance angles. Many other videos on stance angles cover this in abstract "This will 'give you more control'" but by showing the movements you are doing to bring the hips over the center of mass at different angles this really helps clarify what the different angles bring to the table and when you might want to use them to dial in your riding.
ОтветитьDude, if there was a Nobel prise for snowboard vids, you would get one for this. Thank you.
ОтветитьI love riding switch but after seeing this video, i may have to start changing my bindings to ride switch and ride more posi posi Thanks, thanks and thanks for your videos!!!!
ОтветитьHi Horst, I started snowboarding 5 years ago at the age of 50. Just like everyone else out there, I started with a duckstance of 15/-15. I had never heard that you could do it any other way. I had just always heard that as well as snowboarders there were also "raceboarders". But that would be something completely different and had nothing to do with snowboarding... they would ride with both feet forward. You are never really told that it is called posi posi or double positive and that it is fundamentally possible to snowboard like that. Really crazy. It was only when I proactively started looking because I didn't want to accept this completely symmetrical standing and I stumbled across content like this and ultimately your channel. What luck! I am a PGA golf professional (i.e. a golf instructor) and here too there are those who stand rigidly parallel. But now there are many who recommend opening up your stance a little when addressing the ball before the golf swing, i.e. adopting a slightly different stance than traditional. Similar to posi posi in snowboarding, you can use your body better and more smoothly for many things than is possible conventionally. I think it's great to push and try out different things in different directions. Broken down to snowboarding: I've been on the slopes twice this year. First carefully with +18/-6 and then with +27/+6. And it's my personal game changer! I'm actually not in deep carving spheres yet, but I can ride much more smoothly and in a way that's more natural for my body. Thanks for your channel and your videos! I can't wait to get back to the mountains in 2 weeks! Thanks!
ОтветитьTaking inspiration from skiing technique, you can understand why in snowboard carving the turns from the front side are not as efficient as those from the back side. In skiing you always have the foot inside the turn in the advanced position, alternating the right with the left. While in snowboarding we can't change the foot position "from regular to goofy" depending on the curve, obviously! 😅 In certain videos, to overcome the problem, some Japanese assume an extremely twisted and curled position... But I think that position is not suitable for the joints of us Westerners 😂
ОтветитьSo did I bone myself getting a Union Force for double posi stance? Since thats what I will do but I didn't consider the aspect of rotating the highback alot, the force only got like 2 possible settings for rotating the highback. Will it still be ok or should I look for a different binding? Thanks for the great video and explanations!
ОтветитьGreat explanation and demonstration! You can literally see how you are imagining being on the board while you are explaining and it puts a smile on your face just thinking about it. Love the energy!
ОтветитьForget about that😂
ОтветитьAwesome information!
ОтветитьSo one year later, I noticed your shoulder positioning is in a way counterbalancing against the lower body and leg movement, a bit like what you’d do on skis.
I focused on this aspect and realised I was missing that from my toe side turn, and adding it back adds a more dynamic lower back flex and extend, that feels really healthy and well balanced.
Finally dropped some nice carves too as a bonus. It’s amazing what adjusting your body positioning can unlock!
Amazing video! Ive watched it 3 times and have been practicing on piste. Question: toe-side is going well but heel-side is very challenging. Any tips on applying rear heel edge pressure? In your demo as you tilt your hips towards the heel edge your rear heel lifts off the ground. Ive noticed that happens and I lose the edge. How do you apply enough pressure in that position?
ОтветитьThis video is absolutely fantastic. Thank you so much for taking the time and putting so much love and effort into sharing your knowledge with us. I'll be trying to implement all your tips when I get to Japan in 2 weeks. Nothing can beat that natural carving style, it's timeless.
Thank again, I feel so lucky I have found your channel.
Thanks for the awesome explanation! I find double posi much easier on my ageing knees and back, this explains why.
It would be really cool to hear your thoughts on Ryan Knapton's style, and analyse his turns like you do your own :)
Switched to posi-posi and my surfing background translated right away. I've never felt more comfortable on a snowboard
Ответитьyoo great video I totally understood you when you got into the back foot angle being set up for the terrain. trying this out today after boarding for 20 years. I clicked through a few videos before I found someone describing the techniques.
ОтветитьI started snowboarding in the late eighties, neutral/posi i guess. Then I had a long break and started with a brandnew directional allmountain board couple of years back. The guy from the shop set the bindings duck, which puzzled me. Today one rides like that, he said, it's the new normal. I felt very oldfashionned. After one run, my back knee constantly felt twisted and startet to rebell. I thought it was due to my age. I changed to posi posi and was fine. Now, after watching your video, I realized the trouble was because of my style, not the age. Made me feel cool again 😅 Thank you
ОтветитьHey Lars
Would there be any benefit to a 0 back foot or some negative like -3 in any scenario outside of beginners or freestyle such as powder or maybe landing cliff drops? Or would you always recommend some positive on the back foot outside of beginners/freestyle?
Thanks!
I started snowboarding in 1997 (I was a skier before). At this time, everybody was riding +/+, mostly backfoot angle half of the frontfoot angle. I was on +21/+9. They said, duckstance will destroy your knees. And we also were able to go swich with +/+.
Then I was back in skies because of the kids and all of my friends were back on skies.
8 years ago I bought a new equipment (Burton custom 169W) and tried a directional duckstance +18/-10. It felt a lot more comfortable. Then I tried to go back to +/+, but I swiched back because of knee pain.
Now I'm at +21/0 and it feels good also for carving. But I think, I will try +/+ again in small steps to find the optimal angles.
Incrementing up to posi posi, does it help with bad knees? Is it more difficult for tree riding in deep powder on k2 Cool bean, compared to duck?
ОтветитьThis is by far the VERY BEST video I've ever find on the web....I'm going out the "beginner zone" and being 192 cm tall I find very difficult in duck stance to manage my body weight and the bad habit of leaning forward with my torso..I'm not interested in park or freestyle riding but I want to become an efficient carving snowboarder and I finally found 25 minutes of clear and perfect explanation of what to do and what not to do to start practice this way of snowboarding... I started with 15-0 and starting move my hips instead of torso and I feel like I AM USING my board and not my board USING ME! I'm the rider and not the passenger! Next week I want to put posi 18 posi 6 and trying to further improve my riding! I think this video has to be reproduced in every snowboarding school and obtain 20 mln visual, not 45 thousand...You're great!!!
ОтветитьFantastic vdo, very thanks
ОтветитьBeing an older rider I’m looking for new ways to expand my downhill experience. Started skiing in the 80s, went to boarding in the 90s, got into the park in the 2k-20-teens. Now I want to just turn my days away.
Going to give this a try this season.
