Rode Video Micro Review & Real World Sound Test (1 Year LATER?)

I've got it lately and I don't find any better than my phone recording. Even the dead cat didn't help with wind sound 😢

I’m using that mic on my Sony Zv-1f and I’m not getting any sound in my video. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

Does it have noise reduction?

doesn't the fact that is requires no battery mean that it is passive? not phantom nor active?

Is this good for phone cameras?

I would like to ask a question please: I have a GH6 camera and its microphone is good. Again, I don't use the camera in my country, but only when traveling far. I don't do interviews. If you were me, would you use a small external mic or would you do without it? Thank you.

Hi. I have a problem with connecting to the s22 Ultra .... I bought a Trrs cable but now I need a 3.5mm Jack to USB-C Adapter (with DAC). I did the test with a Hama adapter and there was noise so I bought one: Saramonic SR-C2006 thinking that a company specializing in microphones would make a good adapter ... But no ... This one does not work with any phone at all (test 2). any proven adapters? 😊

Can the VideoMicro that has the iPhone jack be used on a mount that connects to the camera? It seems Rodes has one for the iPhones and one without the jack. But both have the plug in the back to connect it to the camera mic. Any thoughts?

How are you connecting the Rode Smart Lav mic to your camera. The cord is pretty short on the one I have (4 ft at most). Thank u for your video!

Hi, thanks to shae your interesting video. I have never used a microphone for my Lumix GH5, also because it has a good mic. incorporated. Please let me understand, this is not a criticism. If you are vloging, to shoot only a few minutes where the microphone is actually useful in a working day, but unfortunately you have to leave it on the camera all the time causing you only some annoyance. My question: how useful do you see it to those who do not do any interviews, etc. etc.? Thanks for your thought.

Thanks for making this review - but am I missing the real-world sound test? - you should've gone outside and recorded footage/audio of you on the streets or near a train/bus/cars. Would have been cool to compare it to the iPhone mics.

Right off the bat, you get the review wrong. Within the first minute you call it a "shotgun" mic when in fact it is NOT. It is a cardioid condenser. Second, this mic may run off of the small amount of power from the mic preamp of the device's audio system, but this is NOT rated for 48V DC Phantom power. Try to use it with phantom engaged, you will blow this mic out. Then, the mount is a COLD SHOE. You keep calling it a "hot" shoe, which means that it draws power from the shoe mount. This is not true. Makes the entire review invalid since you do not know how it functions, so I cannot expect you to use it well

Can this be used for mobile phone audio recording to video?

Sometimes deciding on reviews becomes a tougher task.
Someone says that pro has problems with wind noise and someone recommends it for external use.

@bvc CO, If I am supposed to shoot indoors, why would I spend 80 Bucks on the RODE Mic than spending on 8 Bucks BOYA shotgun which has the problem only with wind noise?

Did you use any post audio production to tweak the audio of the Rode video Micro test? or is it Raw sound ?
I'm assumig that you do post edit your lavalier mic sound.
So, is it a real like for like test ?
To be honest, the micro mic sounded good when you cranked up your camera internal mic gain.

That’s not what phantom power is. +48v is not output by consumer grade slr’s. You have to step up to a camcorder or C300 for that capability or use an audio recorder that can provide that amount of power. This pulls from the camera batter directly to provide power for the mic (little, admittedly) And it’s not a shotgun microphone, it’s a cardioid condenser. Appreciate the review but the facts aren’t exactly correct.

HOW? my video micro sounds awful, like something that came out of a 1997 camrecorder! also, the thing that attaches to the camera is red, while yours is black. How did you get the audio sounding soo good?

Has anyone noticed the white noise with their video micro? My apple headphones produce less than the video micro.. any suggestions? I'm considering selling it

They use 'Plug In Power' NOT Phantom Power. 'Plug In Power' is usually somewhere between 3-5 volts. Phantom Power is around 48 volts.
