I have one these server mother boards with the case that I was going to put together... It's still in the box. I was going to use it for a game rig. However, I have some design projects coming up later this year so I will turn it into a design station.

Z840 is almost 3 times faster than Z800. Look for it!

I have a old HP workstation that even today will crush a Ryzen 5800x in multithreaded workloads.... The box has 2x E5-2699 v4's for a total of 44 cores, 88 threads and a max boost clock of 3.6GHz... With the 128GB of DDR4 in 8 channel, It will casually push out a little of 30,000 points in Cinebench R23... Short of buying into Threadripper 2990W again (which I'm not about to do) nothing comes remotely close for the type of workloads I put on this rig (scientific astrophotographic analysis/processing)... All that matters for my workloads is cores and ram. IPC only matters IF you have more cores... So with my 88 cores, 128gb of ram and a 2560 cuda cores in the machine as well, I couldn't think of a better machine... All up it cost me FAR less than buying even a Ryzen 7 5800x CPU and 16Gb of DDR4 3200..

you really should have mentioned that not only Z800 doesn't provide USB3, it also doesn't come with SATA 3. It's a SATA 2 machine and the internal HDD transfer speed is also very slow compare to SATA 3, even when it's RAIDed on windows disk manager there's speed difference.

An expansion card for faster USB 3.x ports solves the issue of all those USB 2 ports. Server computers aren't really meant for gaming are they?

I had a work machine HP Z840. Great for developer work (overkill) but if you write code that get's deployed on servers it gives you a very similar architecture. I would not get this for gaming. Xeon's are not optimized for any games really, since I'm not aware of any games that can take advantage of Dual Socket systems, except maybe chess engines.

I am using precision dual xeon, with 256Gb Ram, 8tb storage with raid 5 and quadro 24Gb.. still cool but only power swap power supply and LUN always gone.

I have system with old Xeon, but good news that it can held 128Gb memory. That's good. But average performance not so good. You have good prices for this pieces of iron. In current prices as average we can buy only 2 excellent power supply, and that's all folks.
