Gigabyte BIOS strikes again. Some have overclocked the R5 up to 885 points with tesselation in Cinebench 15, so overclocking these APU's is worthwhile by someone that knows what they are doing. Many have reached over 1600GHz on the igpu side.

I am still using my Z-68 board with an Intel i5 2500k running at 4.2ghz. With a SSD and a GTX 1050ti it actually does pretty well on 1080p. I have to upgrade soon though, because the DAW software I use for real time VST audio effects for my guitar regularly maxes out the i5 CPU and causes drop outs and crashes. it's called Reaper and likes lots of cores. The more the merrier. I am leaning toward the Ryzen refresh coming soon, because it will give me plenty of cores for decent money. Hopefully RAM is cheaper by then. I also wonder if a couple of months after I buy the parts DDR5 will begin to appear. Our shiny new parts being superseded by newer generations always happens sooner than we would like, but i hate it when it happens very soon after buying.

I liked this review. Useful info delivered well. Linus is infotainment which i like at times if I am not looking for an actual review. There is the Jayz guy who is a high end hot rodder type with gear well beyond my modest computer budget. There is that Aussie guy who does reviews that are very informative, but he monotone drones his way thru screen after screen of benchmark results to get to conclusion. This review just got on with it and told me what i needed to know about a CPU I am interested in. Cheers.

A little suggestion, use older games like Tomb Raider (2013) instead of Rise of the Tomb Raider. It is much more relevant, this APU shouldn't be used for recent AAA games, you'll get much better gaming with somewhat older games.

Great video
These chips are a paradigm changer, marking the first time IGPU delivered on the promise.
Looking forward to 2019 12 nm and 2020 on 7nm with navi + HBM2 A new era is dawning
Low power systems will prevail. Sure big graphics cards will always run games better
at a very high electrical costs and purchase prices of the big rig components. Which not many people in this world can afford. a lot of jaws will drop when AMD makes a serious move with its IGPU. Something we are sure to see in the next few years.

Hi: nice video. I think this new ryzen are an oportunity for the high graphics cards prices. I want to ask you if do you think is worth to wait or to buy a new graphics card right now. I have a ryzen 5 1600, asus b350 rog strix, 16 gb corsair 3000 mhz and an r7 370 graphics. I really dont play to much but i was thinking to buy a gtx 1060 3, what do you think? is worth? or better to wait?

The new so-called "e-sports" component? No need to get a low-end card if this can handle some games at reasonable frames on medium.

How well does it perform compared to something like the 1030?

Uhhh. Increased system DDR4 speed has a MAJOR impact on regular iGPU-less Ryzen CPU's. To the tune of 20%+ fps improvements in games when going from 2133MHz - 3200MHz. This because the Zen uncore (and thus the IMC / DDR4 clock w/o doubling) and the Infinity Fabric's 128bit bi-directional crossbar bus linking the 2x CCX's run at the exact same clock speed. Going from 2133MHz to 3200MHz drops cross-CCX thread & L3 cache latency by 50%! (Which can have absolutely MASSIVE performance impacts on very dynamic, multi-threaded workloads; like gaming or significant multi-tasking). This will also increase the CPU - GPU IF connection on a Raven Ridge chip while running faster DDR4 (as the CPU & GPU are linked with the same 128bit bi-di X-bar IF bus clocked from the uncore as og Ryzen) in addition to giving the iGPU more memory bandwidth; essentially doubling up on the perf boost from the higher clocked DIMMs.

Other than that one little niggle, great video, great review, and most especially HOT DAMN ARE THOSE SOME GREAT CHIPS! :D (esp. the R3-2200G in part.)

Will it work combined with GT1050ti 4GB dedicated graphics cards, if I want to upgrade in future? Any bottleneck?

Ответить
@AdaaDK
@AdaaDK - 12.02.2018 20:18

what i wanna see is a highend X370 (with strong VRM), combined with 16-32gb of 3200/3600 mems, combined with a liquid cooler (or Noctua NH14/15 series), to see if we can push the bottlenecks, and or to see if the limits are sillicon and platform limits, or if it can be pushed. I could really see a R5 2400G with some highspeed ram and cpu/gpu oc be great as a media center, or even a small media server (or multi purpose unit).

thanks for the video, Can we use the Vega onboard GFX while having an external card ?
interested in how much would the internal Vega would help in a DX12/Vulcan multiGPU senario if used together.

In the mobile area Intel Iris are quite good and could be gotten for very cheap at times, I game happily on an Iris 6100 based laptop bought new for £300...though this was because AMD's previous APUs were just not good for laptops - vastly inferior CPU per core performance strangling the hot running graphics. Now I wouldn't consider Intel for a laptop unless it was one of the ultrabooks with a full on iris pro which I can't remotely afford :P
