Around a year ago I put in a full tank from around a quarter of petrol in my diesel. Took me a while of driving around to figure out what was going on
Eventually my dad asked me where I'd been that day and I said it happened about 2 minutes after leaving the fuel station. He questioned me and I got this image in my mind of a green pump in my hand 🫣 I realised
Cost me 200 quid to someone to come and drain it. Didn't realise I could have called my breakdown service to come and pump it out for free.
Awful noise, it sounded like if you run a stick along a metal gate really fast, what a clatter!!

So basically you can add 1 gallon of gas to a full tank for extra power in a diesel or 1 gallon of diesel for upper cylinder lube in regular engine.

I'm confused. Where's Jeremy?

there should be like a component which detects if you put the wrong fuel and if its in the tank not start the engine and notify you

I accidentally put vegetable oil in my petrol car

This happened once to me, I acquired a london taxi but some berk had put a replacement fuel cap on it from an unleaded tank, So the inside of the filler cap was green. I wrongly assumed it must of been a petrol conversion or something and filled up with unleaded. A friend of mine was curious, he'd never heard of a london taxi having a petrol engine so he popped the bonnet and hey presto, no spark plugs. So it was in fact a diesel. So I got it towed to a garage to have the tank drained. He tried to convince me to replace all the lines as well but I declined. Just filled it back up with diesel and its ran flawlessly until I sold it 5 years later.

Hang on, this isn’t top gear..

We don’t do this in Canada because the inserters are different sizes and impossible to push in, plus pumps are clearly marked and colour coded.

The diesel sinks to bottom that’s why it didn’t have any effects at first

That astra prob has a Bosch VE pump, the manual for Volvos fitted with the same pump say in very cold weather and the absence of winter diesel it's ok to mix petrol up to a max 50%.

I reckon if it had a Lucas pump it would be dead within a quarter mile.

An all fuel car should be standard for the future.

It’s impossible for me to confuse a diesel pump nozzle because the nozzle is green where others are not

I pumped 12 litres of petrol into a C220d once. Just filled the tank up with diesel and forgot about it. Never heard anything back

and I thought I was the only dumbo to do that. filled friend's diesel Fiat 16 with petrol. we drove 25 miles and parked. later the car wouldn't start. mechanic said the other way would be worse (diesel into petrol car). pumped out fuel and the car was came to life

There has never been a problem putting petrol into a diesel tank, as 10 litres of petrol for every full tank using diesel stops it freezing in the winter👌

Old diesels will run on pretty much anything combustible. Seen some hillbilly using trans fluid, etc qith zero real issues.

No 6 speeds allowed

I had a 2016 peugeot expert van 2litre turbo diesel. I stuck 20quids worth of petrol in once on almost empty during my way to work. It drove the rest of the way work, about 5 mins. When I went to go to the shop at lunch it wouldn't start. I went to a garage in a colleagues car and got 30 litres of premium diesel and a bottle of 2 doses of redex. Poored it all in and went back to work for the afternoon to see if the diesel would sink to the bottom of the tank. Started fine at the end of the day, never had a problem after that.

Those were old clunkers with simple engines which are far more resilient in these situations. But try this shit with a a couple of brand new higher end cars and see how well it goes.

Did it once, realised though by smell actually. Told the service manager, he came out and we pushed the van over a petrol sump, opened the tank drain into the petrol reservoir and Bob's your uncle, problem gone, fill with proper fuel and on my way. Sometimes you wonder why your petrol car just doesn't feel well 😅😅😅🎉

Could it be deliberately conceived for one to easily commit this error ? Huge profits to be made. It can’t be that difficult to create a safe way to refuel correctly if they wanted.
