I guess I just really find it odd that NATO designated the Akula class (RU) the Typhoon class, and then designated the Pike class (RU) the Akula Class.

The typhoon is a joke. You don't even need a sonar crew to hear those things

Easily detectable by superior western sonar technology which is 3 decades ahead...

Would you consider doing an episode on the AVRO Arrow? We Canadians feel as though that was our opportunity to become a world leader in aviation, only to have it mysteriously cancelled and destroyed. Thank you for any consideration, and as always you are doing a great job!

Not gonna mention how this "strategic" submarine was so loud it could be detected literally half an ocean away? 🤡

Awesome sub, but the typical "LOOK HOW BIG MY DICK IS!" Russian project. Like the czar Bomba and more.

The Hunt for Red October is actually a Tom Clancy novel that they then adapted to film. So if anything, read the book first.

On the one hand, the construction of such a giant is an engineering feat, on the other hand, it is a terrible stupidity caused by inappropriate, literally monkey, imitation of the West. If they have solid-propellant missiles on their submarines, then give our admirals the same ones. And even yesterday. So they hurriedly blinded the monstrous R-39 rocket, under which they had to make an equally monstrous submarine. The only question is - why, if the development of the liquid R-29RM was completed, surpassing the monster R-39 in 90 tons of starting mass in everything?

I always thought it funny Connery played a Russian naval captain lol. Having a thick accent who then speaks Russia with a said accent was funny.

It's really staggering how a little change can have a massive impact on the volume of an object. For example, a cylinder with a radius and height of 5m and 20m respectively would have a volume of 1,570.8 cubic metres. A cylinder with a radius and height of 7m and 22m respectively more than doubles the volume to 3,386.64 cubic metres.

A sub with a swimming pool and sauna. Sounds like a joke - except it wasn’t. The size of this monster made it virtually invulnerable to the lightweight ASW Torpedoes of Western Warships.
