Great little Video Grant, always liked the RS3, mainly for the noise they make.

Love that accent... but I'd rather have an engine that does not need an extra balancing shaft to compensate the torque imbalance.

I've always fancied one of these, but they just seem overpriced because Audi.

Looks great in that blue though. Has it been lowered?

No mention of the facelift cars having a softer engine? Iron block more reliable but not as tunable

you forgot to mention the recall for a rattle under the front passenger seat. It got fixed as the run went on but is a recall for the earlier facelift cars.

These, and the TT rs, are really cool cars. With the exception that they're an Audi. I mean, a q5 2.0t is a quick vehicle too when you have time to take advantage of it's tech, and the rs3 is obviously more performance oriented. Although they still weigh 2 tons, and won't handle properly without wider tires in the front....
They're just a bit all wet as a daily. They'll eat your wallet, you spend a lot of your time waiting for the turbo to spool, and they will lose so much value because they're going to eat more wallets in the future, with $500 pieces of plastic and fake CELs.
I want to love em, but it's not easy,..

I've heard about the transfer box being a problem, and an expensive one at that, has anyone else heard of this being an issue?

USA here. When the RS3 opened initially for pre order, I specc'd one and waited. And waited. And finally I got tired of waiting. The breaking point was when Audi told me the car was at port in Houston awaiting a solution to a recall on an engine component. Brand new car, a recall? I canceled my order, and hopped into a bmw. An M40i.. totally different vehicle with a different philosophy. But ultimately I'm happy with my decision. For a similar price, interior on the bimmer is much nicer. And this M40i can really scoot. Not as quick as the RS3 but still.

If you get "misfire in cylinder x" -code, DON'T overlook it, as i did. Thought it was just something to do with cold (minus temperatures) weather. One of the fuel injectors was done, and it caused hydrolock/press or whatever you wanna call it. Resulting bent rod and faulty piston and of course full engine rebuild.
Don't be me.

I’ve now owned mine for 6 months. Stunning, stunning car. I get mid 30s per gallon and fantastic performance. I’m not sure I could part with it and that’s saying something for me because I usually swap 6 monthly.

We purchased a 2019 Audi RS 3 and now have 46,718 miles on it of which 33,519 miles
have been fast country back road runs, made 3 days a week tues, weds, thurs, between
10am and 2pm as weather permits. I am retired and have been involved in driving fast
country back roads since 1958. We changed the factory installed SUMMER ONLY 19-inch
tires on our RS 3 to new 18-inch Michelin tires using Michelin Pilot Sport 245/40 ZR 18,
on Neuspeed RSe10 18x8.5 inch alloy wheels, capabile of surviving poor surface quality
country back roads, primarily pot holes and bad surface breaks. They have worked great
thus far... as they have on our earlier 2015 VW Golf R DSG, fitted with the same tire and
wheel configuration. (ROAD TEST MILEAGE UPDATED 5/24/23)

A COMMENT ABOUT THIS VIDEO...
Too bad he didn't wear a different microphone while in the garage. The echo in the garage is pretty high and it may be difficult to understand what he is saying by some people, who have recently written to me about this. An all too common problem with many video productions
and presenters who never seem to look and listen to what they've recorded, before ever
posting it on the Internet.

Hi Rs3 community, can anyone recommend a cool garage in the Geneva (CH) region? anywhere in a 90 minute radius, doesn't matter if in France or Switzerland. I'd like to get some simple work done, but looking for a place where I can hang around, learn a bit, be part of the community.

Does this version of Audi's 5 pot still suffer from carbon build up in the valve area due to being direct injection?

If it does, I think it should definitely be mentioned in the guide because having the engine stripped and the valves blasted isn't exactly a cheap job!

Just to add to rattle coming from the exhaust valves this happened to mine. Backbox was replaced under warranty. After the warranty ran out I thought it happened again, but it turned out that stones had gotten stuck behind the exhaust tips (sports exhaust/black tips). That's happened twice.

Mine sometimes recently turns the dash off or resets when driving, only a couple times. Not sure if it’s the car, security, dashcam that have done it, or mice that the cat plays with under the car

The fuel pump if it’s the same as the Audi s3 2014, then I was advised there’s 2 fuel pumps as it’s a two part fuel tank. There’s a pump that pumps the fuel from the tank you fill into a second tank. Then there’s a second pump that fires the fuel into the engine. It’s the first pump that often fails. The symptoms is fuel starvation, when you boot the car, it immediately drops power. Really hard power drop, enough to throw you out of the seat slightly

Great video, nicely explained and very detailed. Was going to add that potential buyers should watch out for an oil leak from the oil pan and maybe how many launches the car has had (if that info is available), could indicate how the car has been treated.
