One thing I will say on the point of being vigilant while wearing a watch, I think a lot of the attention is drawn by the bracelets, as it’s more shiny material that catches the eye. I think throwing it on a strap of some kind reduces that attention grabbiness quite a bit.

They really aren't "all that" wilsdorf was a marketing guy not a watch guy and he was obviously very good. Not junk by any means but there are better options out there imo but always buy what you can afford and truly love. Yeah I got hooked in but I believe Tudor is better.

I went to my authorised dealer this very morning, asked about a sub, it’s a big birthday next year in July so I thought that might put me in with a half chance of getting one in the next 12 months, well, I was told no chance at all, this is the state of play in the uk at present.

Absolutely the worst Rolex watch made. It’s for sheep following the crowds. Get a real Rolex and if you need a true diver get the sea dweller or pelagos.

Bought a Sea Dweller back 2000 as the shop did not have a Sub , worn every day .... not one single regret , great video and balanced views :-)

Love my no date sub. it's my only watch. Had it now for 10 years ,got it before all the madness of prices going up 😊

I’m torn on the Sub. I like it for the overall design and because of my love for 1962’s Dr. No with Sean Connery, who wears the Sub in the movie, but the wait times are brutal. Then again, I fear that if I get a Black Bay or Pelagos instead, I will still want the Sub for those reasons mentioned.

I got my sub date last year in dec and was waiting for a year, a deal was on my birthday and they kept the promise. Sure I did spend 15 k before on a rolex for my wife and some jewelry. But what can you do that is the AD game.

If you get offered one at retail you need to say yes IMO. I understand the argument about Seamasters, Black bay etc offering better value. However, im not sure they do. If you ever had to sell your Submariner you’ll likely get what you paid for it back. If you sell the others youll probably lose 30-40%. Its an expensive hobby so be careful what you buy because one day you might want or need to sell.

Thankfully in my country, 2 year AD waits aren’t a thing, at least at mine (they’ll also only sell to locals). The 124060 makes for a perfect 3 diver collection, along with the FXD and the Seamaster 2254.50 - well for me at least 😊

I have recently been told by a Rolex AD that the wait time is 5 years for a ss sports watch,I entered the same store in january89 and purchased a Rolex explorer 1016,no wait time,still wearing today,the good old days

They make mass produced watch seems scarce. And it's the most basic entry level sports watch.

Being big just makes you an easier target for a bullet to hit, I wouldn't be counting on 'big' in this day and age

Could and would buy a Submariner if Rolex would stop selling them to people who only want to flip and start selling them to people who want to keep and wear them. A Million watches a year? I doubt that very much, Rolex.

My own opinion is if you like a Rolex, buy it as soon as you can when the chance arrive. Because the price keeps going up every other year and when the model get refresh. Rolex is a very unique watch compared to other makers , it is still the watch that you eventually wear as you get older. 😂
You will grow to like them even more.

I wanted a Rolex OP. But I was put off by the AD wait. I got a Tudor Ranger instead on a bracelet. I also have an Omega 300M 2500D and I’ve got to say I was very pleasantly surprised by the finishing of the Tudor. It’s not as blingy as the Omega but it’s solid, very quiet and accurate. Its lume is amazing. So, it’s scratched my itch for an OP but I have an Explorer on my radar now!

The "cost of ownership" is your self respect, for allowing Rolex to rip you off with a watch which is actually worth a fraction of its' overhyped and overpriced cost....

Perhaps an unpopular opinion but I really do feel the sub is over priced even at retail much less Grey market. Perhaps in the 90’s when it was a little cheaper and it had less competition but today there are so many alternatives for cheaper.

Congrats on the sub! but I love the FXD. I feel your pain though, I recently bought a Omega Seamaster 300m diver white dial and I had to trade in my Oris Aquis calibre 400 green dial and some day I hope to get it back.

My submariner always spend weekends in a safe box because of security concerns and I don't want to wear a luxury watch when hang out with friends.

The list does not matter how long you have been on it, nor how many purchases you have through them. You can be on the list for 1 week and have no purchases with them and be selected just the same. That is at least how the AD explained it to me. However true that might be,

The Sub is a nice watch but not 10k nice. I'm fine with my BB58 blue which I picked up in pristine condition for less than 2k.

The only comment I will make with a Rolex is, they do tend to appreciate in value over time. I have a 1982 Submariner given to me on graduating University. It was purchased in Hong Kong for I believe $1,200 Cdn $ in 1983. As some may consider it vintage now and is a transitional model, from what I can tell, it would likely retail for $25,000 plus. Pretty good return on initial investment. Excellent condition as I don't wear it as much as I should, due to its worth. With luxury items also, comes the high price of servicing them, which is crazy, something else to keep in mind. All comes down to how much enjoyment you will receive in owning it. A Seiko likely keeps better time, Lol.

Since I hate the cyclops, the no date sub is the only sub I'd get. Just annoying it only comes in this colour scheme, black and silver seem so boring.
