A Weird Nintendo Direct for Weird Little Guys - DISCUSSION

I’m a Metroid fan, but for some reason I’m not vibing with this new game… I can’t put my finger on exactly why

The moment I saw that the last game announced was a brand new Tomodachi Life... it put a big fat smile on my face!

Tomodachi Life on 3DS (known in Japan as Tomodachi Collection: New Life) is one of my favorite games on the system. I would create Miis to live in apartments, feed them food, dress them up, experience their weird dreams, see if which ones would be friends and eventually marry...

And that's not getting into what kind of Miis I had and/or made for my island! I had Miis that were salvaged from my original Wii years ago, Miis created for the island, Miis created on my 3DS, and Miis from QR codes shared on various videos covering the game! My islanders consisted of me, my brother, Agrias Oaks from FFT, Lucky Glauber from KOF, various Monster High and Super Mario characters, Reggie Fils-amie, Miiverse users, Karin Kanzuki from SF Alpha 3 and even a statue lady my family has at our house to name a few. It made for a crazy experience that was unique only to me! And I still play it to this day!

I was not expecting them to do a new Tomodachi Life game after all these years! But, lo and behold! New Tomodachi Collection in 2026! I am all for it and its cozy, wacky nonsense! Between this and Pokémon Legends Z-A (I pronounce it 'Z to A'), I'm ready to party like it's 2013 again!

Also, I find it funny that when Jon and Ash were discussing how Miis on Switch were "downplayed" and didn't mention Nintendo Switch Sports at all, which was infamous for making Miis play second fiddle to the Sportsmates and causing a bunch of very disingenuous claims that Nintendo were "killing the Miis". That was way worse than the game itself. And I'm one of those people that doesn't hate Switch Sports... I just have more questions than answers about it. If I begrudge it for anything, it's for getting an update 2 years after the Golf update. That was one of the worst announcements in that June 2024 Direct and you can't change my mind.

This Direct definitely wasn't for me, but I'm ok with because I'm of the mindset that The Current Year is always the best year because you still have all the gems from the previous years. An example of this is I just bought Monster Hunter Stories 1 & 2, I never played them before because I always had other things to play, but I saw them on sale and I just finished a bunch of games and now I'm having a blast

I must be one of the weird little guys, because there were like 11 games in this Direct I'm excited for. Some of them were already announced, but a bunch of them were completely new games.

I hope the marvel beat em up has Tee Lopes music too, ive been listening to his magfest set pretty often lately

I too wish we got a release date for dragon quest... wut im wondering is y does no one seem to be talking about what seems to be an entirely New royal cousin? Who designed this character? What's her deal? If she's playable, what role will she play in the party and what abilities will she have? That one character tease was the direct highlight for me but I just wanna know when it's coming ooouuut

For me, the "disappointment" in this direct doesn't come from not resonating with the games but just that we did not get enough solid release dates, but hey if u can b excited for games that arent coming til 2026 I guess I can be excited for games who's 2025 release is still nonspecific

Yes, I am playing Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition AND I'm so happy about Rhythm Heaven Groove that I cried. Life is good

I’m so happy!!! Tomodachi Life is my second favorite Nintendo game, I love how the Miis talk directly to YOU, the player. It makes Tomodachi feel so personal and self aware compared to other sim games.

There was another playstation game coming back: Devil Summoner!

I get this direct wasn't for everyone, but it feels really strange to me that people were expecting like, massive blowout announcements when this was a surprise direct (and the last one solely focused on switch 1). Much as I also want TP/WW HD, Prime 2/3, FE4 Remake, etc, those are also expectations people were clinging onto from rumors that are now several years old. But who knows? We have new games slated for 2026 so I think there's still a possibility for those to happen.
Anyway I thought the direct was a fun time. Niche, but that's okay, because I enjoyed it and there's a few things there that are new to me, but that I'd like to check out. Prime 4 looks great, never played Metroid before but I'd love to give this one a try! I love a setting with a big tree in the middle!!!

crisis core,lumines and now patapon!, three psp games on the switch now i would have never thought i would see the day

It was a fun little direct that lowkey mainly felt like a clean up direct before the big news drops next week lol. The third party shouts weren't blockbuster franchises and the first party reveals were both pretty niche and pretty far out in the timeline, so placing it anywhere else in the schedule would've probably been weird. Any earlier and it emphasizes the "oh that's it?" factor, and any later and it'd get cannibalized by the Switch 2 news so I appreciate that it gets the right amount of room to breathe.

Going in I was really baffled as to what they would show that warranted a full direct so close to next week and this makes sense, albeit in a less exciting way than if they had some big like third party news that they wanted to drop. Any other point in time and this would've been like a mini direct instead.

Metroid prime 4 psychic controls sure do look like they’d be nice to use with a mouse… and no release date… wouldn’t want to give away the switch 2 release date before next week would they

Disappointing direct, not because it didn’t cater to my tastes, but because the 2025 landscape for Switch seems barren and you would have thunk throwing in a few remasters to fill in the void would have been the logical thing to do. Also putting Metroid 4 in the middle of the presentation was a downer, it would have served its purpose better at the start.

Most niche direct in a long time. That said, I still saw some stuff that I'll be checking out. Glad there was something there for the oddballs, though!

So glad that we're finally getting a new Rhythm Heaven game. Melatonin was a good substitute, but now it's time for the true comeback

The switch 2 is coming in June… I can feel it. Switch release date was announced 2 months before, I expect same for Switch 2. That’s why summer is so empty for games

My hype level for this direct was slightly above ground, and I was pretty disappointed, guess I’m not a weirdo because this direct was not good to me… some of these videos are giving extreme levels of cope… like seriously NO ONE is hype about Tomadachi life lol… be all the way for real 😂🤷🏾‍♂️

Nothing really appealed to me in the direct but i know some people were happy about it. I'd give it a 5/10

this is honestly probably the best nintendo direct for me in a long time - metroid prime 4, tamagotchi plaza, tomodachi life 2, pokemon legends z-a, WITCHBROOK?! so many things that I've waited years and years for and it's so exciting, shame there was no fire emblem but I'll hold on to that copium for another week and pray something is announced with the switch 2

I went into this direct with little expectations, and came out super happy. I’ve never touched Rhythm Heaven, but I’m so happy it’s returning. And then there’s Tomodachi Life. My most played 3DS game. I freaked out when I saw the announcement! I’m just so excited to play the sequel!

Best direct for a PlayStation fan. Can’t wait for a new Everybody’s Golf.

As a massive fan of the hotshots games since the original on ps1, my mind exploded from the announcement

I forget where I read this: but the rhythm heaven’s lead has cancer, and has had it for awhile. I imagine that had to be the reason why there was w 9 year gap, because fighting cancer is quite a life changing event.

But the fact they’re back and working on rhythm heaven just makes it that much more triumphant!

Raidou Remaster was the best of it for me! I enjoy going back through ATLUS past games & getting an updated version is really cool, especially with it being different than the other turn based ones.

i'm really happy about the raidou remake. Really interested in trying that, and now i dont have to use an emulator to play it

The Raidou remaster was my favourite Direct announcement in the last couple of years, so yeah, this weird little guy is happy.

I got Witchbrook release window (finally, this game was announced forever ago), Monument Valley trilogy Switch ports (3rd game out of Netflix Games hell YEAAAAAAAAAAAH), and new Tomodachi Life game. I'm set.

The craziest thing about this direct by far was that NOTHING WAS LEAKED OR EVEN RUMORED which is crazyyyy

The most surprising thing for me was a third AI Somnium Files game, given that the director of the first two has been busy with two other games this year, one that just released and one that’s about to release next month. He’s only given a producer credit for this game but still, Uchikoshi’s been super busy.
