How to Use a Retinoid like a Dermatologist

Hey guys. I wanted to start a retinoid in my night time routine but I'm currently using paulas choice exfoliator every night. Is a exfoliator not as important as a retinoid? Help would be greatly appreciated :)

When recommending a product you sometimes speak too quickly. I try to take screenshots but the images disappear too quickly.

What if I am getting some inflammation spots (PIH) due to the purging or irritation? For reference I am using the Olay Regenerist Retinol 24+peptide night moisturizer. I am applying a bit more than a pea size since its more of a moisturizer and since using it every other night for about a week i am purging (which I am fine with) but I seem to be getting more PIh spots 😭 So i currently put it on pause again. What should i do?! I need to prep my skin to start using my prescribed tretinoin. Please help!

I started on 0.025. Am now using every night with no irritation. Ive just ordered the 0.1% and hoping I can adapt without irritation. Ill start 3x wkly 1st and attempt every other day . Hopefully no snake skin.🙈

Thank you this is so helpful before I go buy some! I do have sensitive eyelids/at night I always have them get itchy or stingy and if I try to get the oil out, the sunscreen nearby tends to make it worse, so I have to wash my face every 12 hours minimum.

Question: I've been using adapalene 1 mc/g cream + moisturizer. For the first few weeks of use I had redness and itching, but now these symptoms are completely gone. Is this expected, or is it a sign that I should be moving on to a stronger retinoid? Thank you.

I was watching this video and was getting all gung ho about trying Retinals but then near the end Dr. Maxfield just throws in, off the cuff, think twice if you have Rosacea. What does that mean? Could you elaborate? I have mild Rosacea (I think...never diagnosed). If I'm tired my cheeks and chin go light red...or if I drink.

Im gonna try it out. Been using a moisterizer for the last week and just ordered a CeraVe stuff on Amazon.

Great video! The wanting to go hard is so relatable 😂. I wish y’all talked about the different strengths of tretinoin. A lot of these derms prescribe 0.1 to start and of course people’s skin freaks out. Then they’re on the tretinoin subreddit wanting to quit.

I find myself critiquing your information from a medical standpoint and every video convinced you practice evidence based medicine and are top-notch dermatologists. As a clinician with 30 + years practicing medicine, all I can say is “keep doing what you’re doing!”

I don’t have sensitive skin, but I started using the retinol from Cerave about 1 year ago… well actually me and my sister did. We had to stop it as we were getting horrible pigmentation. It’s weird.. I stopped retinol and I wish I knew about prescription retinol sooner! I started the prescription one 2 months ago, my skin is peeling like crazy and I’m getting pimples like I did when I started puberty more than 1 decade ago! But I’m excited! Can’t wait for my skin to get used to it so I can use it every day!! ❤

I have dewy glowy skin🥸. I wonder if it’s why folks are looking at skin tints in lieu of foundation. I’d appreciate commenters 👍🏻 or 👎. Foundations hide glow for me. Ya know. If it ain’t one thing, it’s another.

What age would be a good age to start a retinol routine? My daughter is 23 and takes really good care of her skin and uses hyaluronic acid and a number of different things from CeraVe and Cetaphil, however, if she were able to use retinol younger would that be a good idea or should she wait until she's in her 30's? Also, what is the difference between retinol and retinal and what are your recommendations for those for women of color (light to medium skin tone for myself and daughter )? We're similar in color to Dr. Maxfield.

Retinol is about to be banned in Europe, because it associated with cancer. What is your opinion on this? It seems a bit strange that all dermatologists advice so strongly about using retinol in high concentrations.

what does it mean if a granactive retinoid 0.3%, even with daily usage, had no impact on the skin? does it mean, it is not strong enough? because i thought retinoid is the most potent of them all.

How long should you wait before reapplying the moisturizer after the retinol?

Is the ordinary squalene retinol good? It is very oily and I feel my dry skin has become, not dry. I don't even need to moisturise much. But I always heard retinol make your skin dry.

The ordinary retinol expires in three months. How am I suppose to finish it in 3 month as I am just starting it???? PLZ HELP ⚠️⛔️🥺
