While we await a potential new eruption northeast of Grindavik, the alert level was raised at a volcano in a separate area of the country. As, on January 4th, the alert level of the Grímsvötn volcano was raised from green to yellow in response to a swarm of earthquakes. These earthquakes might be caused by or occurring alongside a glacial flood known as a jökulhlaup.
