You don't look like a cross dresser nor do you wear any kind of make-up yet you drive a RAV-4? The ultimate lady's car yes. You should have bought yourself either a Toyota Supra or a Nissan GTR some of Japan's finest sports cars. Even the new Nissan Z would have been cool enough so you make me sad.

It’s a beautiful tradition to see you follow with ‘Ojamashimasu’
every time you enter a house, even knowing it’s been locked with no one inside ~

👍👍

Having lived before in Japan for over 9 years, my concern with these abandoned houses would be mold. But I am still interested in purchasing a house (pay in cash) and being a retired U.S. military it would have to be close to a major U.S. military installation. It would be a dream come true for me.

Hi Matsuo, thanks for sharing. If I want to tear down and rebuild the whole house with a similar size, may I know what is the ballpark figure?

Nagareyama and Matsudo might technically be in Chiba but they're just part of the Tokyo metropolis. For some real deals, you have to go further out, say the other side of Chiba City. Some areas are considered countryside but still quite accessible to Tokyo. I'm currently looking in the area between Narita and Mobara. Prices are much cheaper. You can buy liveable places for 6 mil. Come on down....

Matsuo-san, when you say "Rebuildable" does it mean that you can trash the property and build a brand new and different one on the land?

Nice big balconies. I was living in Sanmu city for the big earthquake in 2011. Inaka. Beautiful and quiet. Lots of farms. Peanuts, rice, and green onions. Very close to Motosuko Beach, 15 minute bike ride. I’ve never been to New Jersey but if that’s what it’s like, it’s pretty nice then, ha ha! The part of Chiba closer to Central Tokyo was always looked down upon by the people out in the countryside. I was 20 km due south of Narita airport. I would watch the line of planes coming in every afternoon. You could see six or seven lined up in a row getting ready to land

As a first purchase the second house seems better - less to renovate, smaller, cheaper. Downside is perhaps the lack of car parking. Not mentioned by Shu.

For the first property, it requires serious renovation and the kitchen is generously sized by Japanese standards. I find Japanese housing tends to be more efficient in terms of usability than most housing in the Asia-Pacific. Hong Kong on the other hand the builders have failed to make it efficient and the housing doesn't feel that spacious at all.

The second property on the other hand, their Genkan is rather low by Japanese standards.

The outside and street view of the first house reminds me of those Rich Tokyo neighborhoods.

Chiba has always been a desirable place to live, for a long time. I remember this from my childhood memories.

This house after renovation would be far far better than what it looks now. Moreover, location adds to the win win situation.

Thanks Shu

Great job on the vlog Shu san.

I think Chiba is one of the prefectures that should definitely be considered. The proximity to Tokyo is a plus as is just the area itself. Both houses were solid and would be excellent in the rental portfolio. I thought it was funny that you used the term “old school” when talking about the house… I laughed out loud.

In terms of equating Chiba to New Jersey… yep, I’d agree with that… as you know I live in Connecticut and work in Downtown Manhattan so definitely can see your comparison.

Congrats on the RAV… great car… I think that Sato san (CEO) should have comped and sponsored you… lol

Keep up the great work.

Best,

Jeff

Gorgious, the potential. I like these way more than the new ones because the changes you can do to these old houses is just way more visible.

1st akiya is wonderful and has a great build especially for families with young children where they have a somewhat spacious outside that serves as a safe spot away from the street and if those large windows slide its a cozy connection to the inside of the home. The foliage is large and overgrown but starting out with more is good since you can make it less with a little trim but still keep it to a size that makes certain parts of the property private and obscured. It has a lot of light still and a quite generous balcony facing out towards the open. + the garage is far from the main buildings so its a place where you can be a bit louder for repairs and other messy tasks that you cant do inside that would disturb ppl.
Very very good find. Place feels good.
