Steven and Cary Stayner: 2 brothers' horror and heroism l Nightline

I knew Steven's story and that he had died in an accident but knew nothing about his brother Cary. To think Stevens is kidnapper got such a short sentence is ludicrous.

I feel sorry for Caryn because growing up it was all about Steven yea he got abducted however I don’t think he felt loved after Steven was kidnapped and even when he came back

Lesson learned never trust anybody specially a stranger who knocks your door and talk everything just to get in, in your house. Never welcome anyone specially strangers in your house

Steven suffered the most and was a standup guy afterwards and his brother was just pure evil

I saw a family portrait of the Stayner family. Cary does look like he had a few loose screws. He had a wimpy hairdo and no girlfriend with him. But Steven already had a pretty wife and two kids. That should tell you something. I don't think the parents ever took note. They were too interested in their youngest son Steven who had his act all together.

Carey knew my mom in her early 20s and was a little obsessed with her. He asked her out several times, but she said no, and he left her alone after she met my dad and they started dating.

there's a new 3 part miniseries on Hulu called Captive Audience :A Real American Horror Story where they talk to Steven Stayner's kids, his mom, his wife and one of his sisters...the first 2 episodes are about Steven, the third is Cary's story...

He gets the death penalty, then it suddenly turns into life in prison. Oh well...

Just goes to show you can't judge a book by its cover. I would've totally swiped right if I saw Cary on a dating app but then I would've gotten slaughtered on the first date.

the 2 part mini series about Steven is beautiful. he had such a tragic life and died so young. i feel for the parents after what happened with his bother

I didn't know this was a movie based on true life till years later, and ten hear that Cary Stayner ended up a murderer years later after I saw this movie Kenneth Parnell should have gotten more then 35 years in jail instead of just 5 years

I remember watching the Movie!, here in Australia it was called the Missing Years!, Truly Tragic!, Rest in Peace Steven Stayner!.

I wonder what his parents think of the two tragedies

Did Carrie become a serial killer because of what happened to his brain when his brother was kidnapped? We don't know. These brains of these people, like bundy, Dahmer, in this Carrie need to be studied.

Both Steven and tim died so young. RIP

I remember the movie about Steven I'm so sorry for what happened to him. And that monster parnell got off way to easy and then try to re offend. To me justice was not served

Stayner wasn't at Yosemite National Park to work. That was his front. He was on a quest to murder females. So sad YNP hired him on. So sad he got to murder those female tourists. Now may he rot in prison the murdering bully/ Coward.

Parnell is currently out and free despite reoffending.

I feel so sad for this family, one son was kidnapped at a early age( was found, but was never the same), the other son became a serial killer, basically they lost two sons!!!!

Cary is such a handsome guy it's so weird that he turned out how he did.

Perhaps losing his brother is what put him over the edge...if he's a psychopath then it wouldn't of mattered

I read a recent article that said both boys were being regularly molested by one of their family members and had very sick and dysfutional family.

Just finished listening to this case and was shocked and discussed to learn that the kidnapper served only 5 years for both kidnappings

Wait wtf, he steals two boys, one for seven years - the other only escapes cause Of Steven’s heart hearting for his missing his mom and dad and they only give the abuductor AND RAPIST five years? Wtf! Marijuana growers and shippers get more than that. OBSCENE

When Steven said his siblings changed a lot and he wouldn’t have recognized them….LITTLE DID HE KNOW smfh. And no offense but you would have expected Steven to go on a murderous spree after being kidnapped for seven years and experience that Level of abuse

He’s a cold blooded psycho but I think he also had trauma he never got help from and I have to think trauma therapy would have saved a lot of lives that Carey took away

You'd think his own encounters with senseless crimes and loss would have prevented a serial killer.

Steven was a very strong young man definitely a hero who lost his life way too soon 😢💔💔
