Legends luke was basically an MMORPG character. That force light ability sounds stupid.

Disney could go back to show some things in his personal life outside of his new Jedi Temple. Maybe they will go back and show him lose a child with an important political figure instead of a Mara Jade character (or maybe even a Mandalorian) that he's not allowed to have as a Jedi. This would follow the footsteps of not only his father but his father's master.

Luke's story isn't completely lost, like you said...they left it open, however it's their job to reopen the storyline to explain fully why our hero became so disillusioned.

All the things or many of them, done by Luke in cannon ( Disney ) were the the things he learned that were the problems that destroyed the Jedi. He would have made all new mistakes. Each generation learns from the one before them. Allowing them to advance the entire order.

The character they built in legends was in my opinion a much better character although they by the end over powered him. I think do to some lazy writing instead of allowing Luke to use the skills he had, and the lessons he learned, the writers would just give him a new force power. It was a lazy and easy out, and no one pushed back against it because everyone or most enjoyed the idea of yet abother power that Luke discovered he had. I'm among that group. Watching Luke turn into a force within the force was fun and no matter who he came against he over powered them let everyone cheer for their hero.

I felt that sequal movies Luke was a product of Kennedy and her driectors wanting to take over Star Wars. To accomplish that they needed to get rid of the legacy characters and replace the. Unfortunately the writers and driectors of that piece of the overall story were not very good at replacing what George had built. They were also constrained by Kennedy, as she insisted that the new characters fit in a specific box.

So i guess somewhere between cannon and legends would have worked. If forced to pick one or the other I'd go wirh legends. Then find a way to depower him just a little.

If I'm getting my way I'd leave Kennedy out alk together. Do less Disney plus ( still do quite a bit ) Do more theater Star Wars. Include the legecy characters ( especially Anakin and Luke ) as long as I could and let them develop the new characters giving everyone a reason to love the new guys. Also allowing everyone to know the new guys.

I dont mind Luke thinking of killing Kylo out of fear cause he instantly regretted it and realized his mistake, the problem is that he never bothered to fix his mistake and decided to die and leave his loved ones to fight a battle that was cause by him.

Disney's Luke is just wearing his skin. There is nothing inside that connects it to Star Wars and I will never regard Disney canon as anything but fanfiction.

I actually like how Luke fell into solitude in Disney. NOW THERE IS alot, with the SEQUAL trilogy I don't like....Rey and her story line is one of them. Plus they Amped everyone up for Finn as a Jedi, in the early trailers. But I Digress; I think having the Beacon of light and hope, such as Luke... Being shattered. Is a very good twist. But I think they could have wrote it out alot better, especially make Luke a bit more interesting. I think Luke's fall...should have had a better more understandable reasoning. I don't like how he just wanted to OFF Ben immediately. I think his character should have been emotionally and mentally broken down. In a Systematically, calculated fashion. Think of it as..... Bane; breaking the Batman. Someone breaking Luke down, till he finally snapped.

Luke Skywalker is my favourite character in the whole of Star Wars. I just wish Disney made him like legends rather than the small minded shadow he became.

You represent both sides of Luke very well, but the way he was represented by disney was retarted. Your version of Luke as a Grandmaster is what we should have gotten, just my opinion though , nobody has to get mad about it. Just so u know ive seen everything , i am about to be 51 years old in october. I did want to see all the new star wars stuff at disney, and i have been waiting for Georges star wars park . Now im handicapped and couldnt do any of that stuff . Ive never even had a vacation, i always worked , and have nothing to show for it. The only thing I don't like about Legends Luke or Legends in general is that everyone is is waay to overpowered, that's why I prefer the canon versions. Sidenote, I hate the sequels and what they did to Luke, the movies are awful and the characters suq especially Rey.

I’m not sure why people think Luke tried to kill his nephew when it’s blatantly stated that that’s not what he did… but anyway… course he fucking would! 😂 it would have at least crossed his mind. He tried to kill his dad just because he mentioned his sisters name,,, you don’t think after sensing the destruction this guy would eventually bring, you don’t think the thought of just stopping that before it starts wouldn’t cross his mind? He ignited his lightsaber out of fear… he wasn’t looking at his nephew at that moment… he was looking at everything he had built being turned to rubble! For all we know he saw the death of Han even if he didn’t understand it! It’s amazing how people who claim to be Star Wars fans don’t get that Luke isn’t a fucking god. He’s a human being who makes mistakes. Just because he had an arc in the OT doesn’t make him any less human. So because he brought his father back from the light he suddenly can’t make any more mistakes? That’s not what happens in life. The Luke in TLJ was way more interesting than any Luke I have heard fans theorise about what could have been. I don’t wanna see super sayan Luke doing flips and shit! That’s boring as fuck!

The last jedi is many things but complex it is not.
Lukes arch is just literary him being and acting the opposite of what his character actually is. Any complexity to him is made up by fans in their own heads trying to make sense of this hack story.

What do I think? Legends is the real Luke, and Ep 7-9 is just bad fan fiction that doesn't actually exist.

To say the least, I'm of course on the Legends side of the argument for the character evolution of Luke Skywalker.
Disney Sequels for him were a regression of character, instead of trying to pick himself back up and fix his mistakes he completely retreats from everything and thats not the Jedi we saw in the Original trilogy, Luke to his core is brash and a little impulsive but given a clear head he'll think things through.
When Vader took his hand and he was confronted with the knowledge Vader was his father he accepted it and pushed on with the support of Han and Leia and Wedge to an extent and grew. Ryan Johnson didn't do a character study he completely broke down the iconic character as fodder for the new ones.

It's quite simple. Disney doesn't have a freaking clue who Luke Skywalker is, and Disney writers are largely themselves too immature to grasp this character. OT and EU Luke is the only true canon Luke.

I don't recall which "legends" novel it was, possibly Courtship of Princess Leia, but Luke was questioning his use of the force. Worried that his use of power in one part of the galaxy caused something negative to happen elsewhere, as a sort of cosmic balance. There are many examples in the old novels of Luke having self doubt, he just always found some inspiration. I know there are far more "legends" novels than there are canon, but I feel he was a much more rounded character, even if he was a little OP at times.

The sequels trilogy was a complete disaster..........Luke Skywalker was supposed to be a powerful Jedi who trains a new set of jedi.........instead, we saw a character who is afriad of the dark side.... unacceptable

One has just got to understand the situation Luke goes on to battle Vader in the presence of the Emperor. This is canon. How does one whom has such depth in the force, faced probably anything much more challenging than the Last Jedi can throw, albeit all this while having to have such balanced emotions as Vader is his father, become so despondent is beyond comprehension. Probably only in the eyes of KK and Ryan Johnson whom represent the immorality that is very vastly present nowadays. It is immoral because they clearly know they were going against the real depth George Lucas had created for Luke, and just did not care one bit.

To keep it short Disney ruined Star Wars as a whole. What they did to Luke was basically criminal. One of if the the greatest jedi of all time and they made him a almost murderer, a coward and he dies from being tired! Just like how they left everyone hanging with Snoke Disney doesn't care about the fans or the story just money

Him willingly holding himself back shows huge character growth, the fact that in RoJ if the Emperor hadn't of laughed, Luke wouldn't of snapped out of his rage, killed Vader, and Fell.
This older more grizzled Luke didn't need intervention to snap himself out of it, he realised that what he was doing was wrong on his own

I love both but Canon is totally keel. That's why I don't like legend stuff, for example there's 2 academy that luke has.

So more ahsoka taking the place of another character I see. Dave filoni just can't help himself.

He's also cementing Jake Skywalker or Soywalker.

In my opinion, everything Legends is better (even the Crystal Star). Seriously, I don't know why Disney killed the Legends series. They could be like Star Trek, and do what they want, but keep making books from both timelines

It would have been cool to have seen asoka tano and Ezra Bridger show up to help luke skywalker by taking some of the strain off of him allowing for luke skywalker to survive. Luke staying where he is and training with asoka and Ezra so as to reconnect with the force in preparation for the intensity of the battles to come makes a lot more sense to me than what Disney gave us. The best portrayal of Luke in the new Disney canon was definitely in The Mandalorian Season 2 finale, and it’s a shame that Rian Johnson misrepresented him so terribly in The Last Jedi.

I love legends, Luke, and that will always be the true outcome of him after return of the Jedi for me.

Ito doesn’t make sense that Luke just didn’t talk to Ben when he first sensed the darkness (the darkness he sensed before he felt Ben’s darkness when he was sleeping) and consulted Yoda, Obi Wan and Anakin on what to do.

I’m reading the Legends novels now because I’m done with Disney Star Wars

Legends a true Jedi master Cannon a true emo little bitch. Enough said. They destroyed Luke top to bottom. Granted we have hope, Ahsoka lived so the sequel trilogy will not happen and it will be moved to some other time line that will never exist where it belongs.

I'm tired of hearing non-fans say how the old canon was too inconsistent and needed a reboot because it was too convoluted.

That original Heir to the Empire novel was the stepping stone for what the EU would eventually lead up to, and planted the seeds for tons of future stories. There we plot points that all tied to each other pretty seamlessly in each installment, even in the ones regard as the worst ones.


Meanwhile we we have three movies that backpedal on and contradict each other because Disney had no plan. Even some of the best books and comics in the new canon can't seem to figure out the vision and are just taking the best of what was there before and reworking it.
