Is the PRESA CANARIO Right For You?

My presa is 6 months and shows guard instincts at times. Other times she’s kind of scary. I socialize her pretty well since I’m a truck driver. Any tips

Yes do your due diligence before getting a presa. They haaave to be trained. My girl also knew how to escape from her cage if she needed to protect.

My 8yo presa just passed away from cancer &bloat happened towards the end. such a beautiful protector she was.. trained her extremely young. 1of the most loyal dogs I've ever owned❤ saved my life once when my house was broken into. She hated other dogs most of the time.

I ended up with a presa almost entirely by accident.
Saw a picture of a dog at my local kill shelter on a Facebook group, when he only had 4 days left.
Call my partner right away because I recognized his breed immediately, I couldn't imagine such an expensive and relatively rare breed especially in our area being put down just because he looked a little scary.

We went to meet him and introduce one of our dogs to make sure he was safe to bring home, and got him the next day.

I haven't DNA tested him yet, but he's either full bred, or pressa and xl bully, based off of the history given by his previous owners.

What great summary of the dog breed. I wanted to know all these things to see how feasible would be for me and my family to have a dog of this type because I like them. I understand that it takes work but I think it would be cool still. Now, I admit a Labrador or a Golden would be probably easier but I am not the type to have a Golden retriever hahaha...

What breed would you recommend more so for intimidation factor than actually "murdering the stranger"? The Corso and Presa are too much for my family but I do a lot of solo trail running and want to purchase a dog that will make people think twice before trying to kill me but that will also mesh well with a family with a 6yo child.

One of the most underrated animals of all time. They do just as well watching over my land as my pair of Cane Corso. I would trust my Presa with the protection of me and even my goats and chickens. Presa Canario are amazing! I use mine to herd my goats.

What do you think about the Irish wolfhound? I’d love to hear what you think about them. I’ve always loved Great Danes and I’ve had a few in the past, so I’m thinking the Irish wolfhound would be similar but i really don’t know. There’s very limited info out there on them.

Law should say you cant have this breed unless you have a minimum of HUGE yard it can run full speed and have no reason to be in public.

I have wanted a presa for 15 years but I have not gotten one because I will not get one until I have the proper fencing and now that my child is an adult and there isn’t friends coming in all the time and my work before tied my time too much to properly train and maintain thing with it. But now I am researching breeders and how the temperament of their animals and satisfaction of the owners.

They look like Cane Corso.

I had 2 Boradors last year and that was a mistake.. I got them both "well" trained by myself and they'd listen to commands, BUT, one of them had SEVERE separation anxiety and I couldn't take the other for a bath or for a walk without that particular one screaming the house down. It even made training them in separate rooms quite challenging.

I re-homed one of them at 4 months old because they were too much together and then rehomed the other a couple of weeks ago at 18 months old partly because of the exercise requirements and neediness of the breed which comes from the collie in them and partly because of the stress and anxiety she gave me which made me reluctant to take her on walks.

Now I've got a full Labrador that's only 10 weeks old, but he's VERY intelligent. It only took me 4 days to toilet train him, sat on day 1 and required absolutely no food or toy work with the lead when I tested him for when he can be taken on walks in 3-4 weeks time. He's quite big for his age and weighs about 4KG but he's not fat.

My next dog might be a Doberman or Rottweiler, but they require tons of training. I've even thought about mastiff breeds too, but they're also pretty expensive.

Can you do the bullmastiff ?

Most people who get these dogs are suburbanites. Then, they need to water them down to be more people friendly.
It's like people who get their trucks lifted and don't need the extra clearance because their truck only touches asphalt.

I'd like some advice from knowledgeable people pls!
So, im 23 and have always grown up with big dogs and i helped train the lot of them growing up.
I just recently got my own dog (not family dog) and she is 5 months; rottweiler/siberian husky and she is doing phenomenally with her training as of now! I was thinking when she is fully trained, at least a year to a year and a half, to get a male persa canario/cane corso mix. That would be the SECOND dog of my own.
Just wanna hear advice from people, know how this sounds. Idk if i got lucky with my rotskys genetics or if im just doing a good job of training her but she is damn near perfect at 5 months!

I love my male Presa Canario. He is 4 years old and my son is 3.5 years old. That 6 months was more than enough to imprint and train him and establish his place in the family. They are very loyal and smart but they need a constant alpha presence or they will try whoever they think they can. He is unfixed. Now that he is older he is good with company and neighbors but still very suspicious of any stranger or acquaintance. They are NOT dog friendly. It does not matter what sex or breed. If you have or plan to get more that 1 dog with a Presa then never let them be unsupervised together. That is just their nature. No amount of socialization will change the nature of a well bred Presa… I recommend PresaMania for a great breeder in Texas! But this video is correct, it is not the rig he dog for 99% of people.

You made me change my mind when it comes to trainers I always thought dog trainers in north america did not know what they were taking about, I grew up with dog, protection dogs and hunting dogs, you my man are by far the most knowledgeable out there.

My cousins daughter got one in the summer. She has no dog handling experience. I was shocked to hear about this. I don't have an update but I imagine they have run into problems

Got a Presa/doberman mix trained her to be a loyal companion to my little sister. She's so good with her follows her around everywhere. Protective but not aggressive unless provoked. She's super obedient as well easy for my little sister to control and she knows her place in the family. Im considering either 2 full presa canario for my farm or boerboels.
