always interesting to hear a collector's viewpoint.

ОтветитьIt was certainly sad to lose Quincy Jones. He was a major figure in music for sure, and I also think of the MJ Thriller album when I think of Quincy Jones. The Frank Sinatra Impex release looks great. I don't own any Impex releases yet, but if something catches my eye, I will certainly buy one. Frank Sinatra was one of the truly towering artists of 20th Century music. Did you know that Jim Morrison of The Doors loved Frank Sinatra? That says a lot about Jim. 👍👍👍 Sing and Dance with Frank Sinatra is one of his better albums, but there are some far better albums that were released by him between 1955 and 1958. It's arguably the best time of his musical career when his voice deepened and became very rich and smooth. If Impex would put out Sinatra albums like In The Wee Small Hours, Songs for Swingin' Lovers, A Swingin' Affair, Where Are You, Come Fly With Me, and Only the Lonely, I'd very seriously consider buying them. 😻 Regardless, it's really good to see that they're giving Sinatra a lot of love with this release. He definitely deserves it. 👏👏👏
ОтветитьHi Melinda, new to your channel, love your enthusiasm ❤ You have so much knowledge to share. The audiophile pressings are so expensive. I do wonder what level of HiFi equipment is needed to hear the difference. I am rocking a Rega P3 with the new ND5 cart, with the Rega PSU, into the Rega MM phono. Amp being a Marantz, speakers Kef R3 with a SVS SB3000 sub. Need to try one and see. RIP Quincy Jones
ОтветитьAl Di Meola, one of the great Guitar players. You are an Elegant Gypsy.
Anyway, three great Guitar players on Friday Night in San Francisco.....love it.
Hi Melinda you look to have your spark back good to see that smile again
ОтветитьHi Melinda! Great video! I agree, the 1-Step of Getz/Gilberto is absolute PERFECTION!! How do you top that??
I'm a massive Frank "tragic", so I'm definitely going to get "Sing and Dance" now, after your appraisal!
I hope they one day put out a 1-Step of Frank & Quincy's wonderful "LA Is My Lady" album!
Sound quality of your vids has improved dynamically in two weeks. Could be the mic(s); sounds like the room tho. Next vid may reveal as you teased?
ОтветитьI preordered Abraxas and received it about a week ago. I also have a pressing from the early 1970’s. I totally agree that the Mobil Fidelity vinyl sounds amazing. The pressing from the 1970’s is a bit worn, but it still produces excellent sound. I have several Impex records, including Misty, and all are wonderful pressings.
ОтветитьHi Melinda! I totally share your enthousiasm about Abraxas!! I can only hope the improvements you are doing on your musical room is to have it acoustically treated 😊 THIS really makes a huge difference IMHO. Peace ❤
ОтветитьHi Melinda,
A piece of advice to get the best out of your Sinatra mono record (and other mono records): You should consider getting a mono cartridge and use for these - among other things it adds better depth to the sound stage.
Also if you collect first/original (jazz)releases from the 50's until the mid/late 60's, you'll often find that they sound best in mono via a mono cartridge (as is also the case w. the Beatles in Mono, Stones ', Dylan's ditto an others).
Another advantage when you buy used records is that a mono cartridge is more tolerant to wear/noise and other damages to the record (within certain limits of course).
My choice has been the Audio Technica AT33 MONO, which I can really recommend. I have mine on a separate turntable so it's easier to swop from stereo to mono and vice versa.
Regarding Abraxas, David Bianco made a comparison between the one you have and the one-step. David finds that the new 33 rpm is very, very close to the one-step which in not on super vinyl (and breaks the listening up in 4 parts which I dislike and find is a technic-before-music choice when we are at the high quality level for both).
Best regards Claus
So nice to see your smiling face on this sad day for the world. And that color blue really highlights your beautiful face and hair! Time for some soul healing music!
ОтветитьMany thanks for sharing your excitement for the Frank Sinatra 1step. Here in Europe that set costs abt. 250 USD, sometimes plus shipping. I seriously doubt that it is worth it and by probably feeding too many greedy mouths. Same thing with the Getz Gilberto whereas the AP 45 has the better value for money. Impex may have a hard time in Europe selling these ultra expensive editions, esp. in the current vinyl market situation.
If at all the 33 Frank Sinatra may be worth considering.
Impex is one of the very very very best reissue labels there has ever been
ОтветитьThanks for your review, your insight is exciting & fun, I just bought santana & haven't listen to it yet. But I did hear the santana 1 step & it was the best sounding record I have ever herd, it was like Imax in 3d, 🎉
Ответитьsome good albums there have the santana lp also have welcome caravanserai and moonflower and a best of santana
ОтветитьI may be a weirdo but I enjoyed my early teenage years. I am not a fan of single albums on two 45RPM records.
ОтветитьI need a copy of Abraxas. I will check out the MoFi.
ОтветитьMono - mono cartridge will make it sound as it should. Even when using the mono selection on your pre or integrated, the sound stage, instrumentation, and voicing will be different. Find a friend with a mono setup and do a serious listen.
ОтветитьNice vid Melinda. I just ordered the Sinatra IMPEX release based on your recommendation!
I have the IMPEX “Legrand Jazz” and the “Ellington Indigos” editions. They certainly produce a quality product!
Do you have a mono switch or use a mono cartridge?
Dear Melinda thx u for your enthusiasm on Vinyl …
Are you interested in “Dolby ATMOS Mastering that Clapton and Beatles are using…
To me it sound great on Blu Ray ????
Keep up the great work…
I'm "bookending" my Electrical Radio Program radio show with Quincy Jones this weekend, starting with the theme from "Ironsides." That's supposedly the 1st TV theme using a Moog synth. Yes, many of the A&M pioneers are crossing over, including Sergio Mendes, but we still have Herb Alpert & he's still performing (I saw him & Loni about 6 years ago).
ОтветитьWee Small Hours; the best
And a bottle of Jack Daniel’s a day
Book: Arcitectural Digest, Hollywood at Home. Great picts of Frank and his home for 20+ years in Palm Springs & incidental insights
ОтветитьHey !
I am from Brazil. And I'm a big fan of João Gilberto. Congratulations, you have great taste in music.
Melinda Melinda Melinda! 😎👍
ОтветитьI played his album The Dude and his production of Patti Austin’s Every Home Should Have One. Two of my all time favorites produced by him. And of course Off The Wall and Thriller. I need Off The Wall on vinyl. I’m sure it’s available out there somewhere. ❤❤❤
ОтветитьHi Melinda, I was fortunate to buy Santana’s Abraxus when first issued as a 45rpm one step. I know those pressings are going for ridiculous prices! Great video!
ОтветитьSo sad about Quincy Jones. The Thriller album is one of the best sound quality albums ever.I used it to test out my base.
ОтветитьVariations in quality are everywhere From cars, hifi equipment, people, restaurants etc etc. Good episode Melinda.
ОтветитьThanks for shining a spotlight on Friday Night In San Francisco, the Sinatra Columbia vinyl and the Santana Abraxas vinyl. I especially was intrigued by the Sinatra LP. My Dad turned me on to the music of his youth which included the pop idol era of Sinatra’s career with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. Sinatra virtually invented modern song phrasing for both the pop and jazz idioms. His Columbia work showcased the purity of that voice and what an instrument it was. On to Santana. Carlos Santana is one of my favorite guitarists. He conveys pop, jazz and spiritual elements through his music which make it extra special. Love the on camera look of your music room. The background nicely compliments your presentation. Thanks for the continued excellent content.
ОтветитьSadly for me most of the bands I like just weren't originally recorded to my liking and no matter which version I buy across all platforms just do not sound that good to me as far as sound quality. There are exceptions but too few to mention. Glad you are happy with these artists.
ОтветитьYou seem to be in great mood in this video. It’s contagious. I really enjoyed hearing how much you loved the Santana record and the joy it brought you. Have a great weekend MM!
ОтветитьMelinda, dont forget van halen live release on RSD coming up .
ОтветитьGreat video. Don’t know if you have Patricia Barber “Cafe Blue” done by Impex but it is great.
ОтветитьTu canal es genial Melinda qué buenos vinilos en mí país argentina es difícil conseguirlos de esa calidad saludos
ОтветитьMelinda! 😍🥰😘
ОтветитьMelinda, thank you for your review of the Mofi Original Master Recording of Santana's Abraxas! I have an original that I probably bought in the 1970's and I also have a half-speed master from CBS Master Sound series. If I can find the Mofi OMR Abraxas is it worth getting if I have these others?
PS: I just got the OMR Santana III numbered issue. It sounds fantastic!!! It is worth every penny!!!
Melinda, you mentioned Sinatra alongside Elvis and ("maybe") Tony Bennett ... there is one, IMO of course, that is greater than all of those: Ray Charles. He wasn't as "successful" in terms of sales, etc. - of course he was no slouch either! - but there is no voice with more emotional impact ... nor range. Elvis was close as he could sing just about anything, but Brother Ray could sing Tin Pan Alley, jazz, blues, R&B, and even country with total conviction and skill. Sinatra, great as he was - and he was great indeed - couldn't do that. (Can you imagine him trying to sing "What'd I Say" or "I Don't Need No Doctor"? He'd make a damn fool of himself!) Now that I'm writing about this, it makes me think we need some audiophile recordings of some of Ray's albums!
Ответитьhi we all hope you all are doing well you might enjoy nanci griffith singer red is the rose emily linge singer book and movie rebecca 1940 home grown organic blueberrys all the best
ОтветитьHi Melinda! Great video as always! I made an account and finally got my picture on here haha! Hope you and family are having a great weekend! So I will use this account now. Keep rocking like always!
ОтветитьAnother great video my friend i just now watch you're video. Cause I've been sick these last few days so been sleeping a lot.
ОтветитьYou had to pull a FRANK on me .......😂😂😂
Ответитьi think you convinced me to buy abraxas again .just like you i have the orinigal from the 70
thank you
Thank you so much, Melinda, for all the wonderful things you said about me and Sing and Dance with Frank Sinatra 1Step. It is heartwarming to see so many positive responses to the hard work the Impex team put into our releases. The 1Steps are a labor of love, and we enjoy working on them. Sing and Dance with Frank Sinatra and Getz Gilberto 1Step was an exceptionally involved project for us. 🩷 PS....thanks for noticing the cute hype stickers.
ОтветитьMy folks probably still have a bunch of the "Sing Along With Mitch" albums.
ОтветитьI made the same comment & compliments to the Impex team over last weekend on the Jazz Bums CH after receiving, playing, & devouring the "liner booklet" & box presentation, which I loved as much as the vinyl itself.
ОтветитьMelinda, a big “thank you” for your high praise of the 45-RPM 1-Step edition of “Sing and Dance with Frank Sinatra.” To those of us involved in the project, this specific album demonstrates the benefits (and wonders) of the 45-RPM and 1-Step processes. This music literally “sings,” and takes on even more depth than previously heard. A huge pet of why this sounds so great is the extraordinary care Bob Donnelly and Chris Bellman took to create a stunning master lacquer. We couldn’t be happier with the final package - or, dare I say, more proud. We appreciate you and other reviewers and audiophiles recognizing the attention to detail that went into creating this new limited 1-Step edition!
