It's either the Damn weather or the bugs.. I'm sorry lisa.
Thank God for your hail netting and your green houses, Maybe just grow stuff under the hail netting & in your greenhouses?
The hurricane destroyed all of my plants! 😫

That’s a hell of a way to test the hail netting. 😳😢
If you feel up to it you can harvest your lettuce and eat it before the holes go brown. Same with the broccoli leaves.
I bet the herbs grow back.
Leaving the tall weeds around your rhubarb saved it!! Rhubarb is the one plant that would grow here in the 30’s I’ve been told. It can take a lot of abuse.
I may leave that garlic in that still has its tops Lisa and pull the one that lost its top now that I can see it good.

I took my garden video this morning! 😬
Take care lovely. Virtual hugs. ❤️

WOW! So much hail. That's crazy. I'm sorry you had so much damage but I'm glad it wasn't baseball sized hail. But it still has to be such an emotionally upsetting experience. I don't think you are being rash. That's a big hit. If you do decide to continue gardening... maybe something more like a chicken run... with chicken wire and the hail netting as the ceiling. But I totally wouldn't blame you if you decide the outcome isn't worth the effort to garden there. Long distance hugs.

I'm so sorry Lisa. But....from looking at the plants in the video, most look like they will bounce back. I'm glad the hail netting worked, altho it had some sags with the collected hail. I hear where you are coming from. Being discouraged by something totally out of your control is a hard pill to swallow. Yeap, believe me....I get discouraged too with out weather. But I just won't give up. Stubborn is my middle name lol
Hugs my friend.

Awww darn it Lisa!!! I know how frustrating that must feel! I’m so glad the hail netting you have helped and I’m glad the greenhouses survived. You are right it could have been so much worse and good call on that hail netting! I think you’re being realistic and you’re in problem solving mode. I love that you’re always real about things! Hugs friend! 🤗❤

I feel your pain on this. I have had those exact same feelings with my birds. Apparently the stubborn german in me just refuses to let nature win, so I keep pumping more and more time, money, etc into the birds out of sheer spite now.

Im not sure what i would do if I did actually give up and let nature win....

I am so sorry Lisa it is defeating at times. I have lost garden to other things but thankful I can buy bulk from Amish I know. Yes its extra money but sometimes its just worth it and helps getting past the frustration. I hope those plant will pick up and grow and produce for you. Thanks for always being truthful and showing real life on your farm

So sorry about your garden Lisa. I hear what your saying about buying local. Maybe thats a good idea, downsize the garden to a more manageable size to protect from hail. But believe me, I am no stranger to putting hard work into something and then seeing it destroyed, (Remember the cows in my orchard)

We are thankful for the hail netting we purchased this year. However, moving forward we will be evaluating if gardening is worth the blood sweat and money for the small yield we get here. The Black Hills of SD consist of the perfect conditions for hail storms…ranging from pea size to golf ball size on a frequent basis.
