the amound of anxiety watching you so deep in the water crossing would be my hold back. I honestly do not think I would have crossed. I can swim but have a fear of fast moving currents and not being able to see my footing

I did the trail back in 1974 just in NC Outward bound.. What does it matter if you go half way up to Damascus and turn back to Georgia? Still the same distance! TOO many rules.

You did a remarkable job at showing so much of the natural trail and life at camp and the laces you stopped. Awesome job. And awesome achievement.

Great job. I’m going to give it a shot. In 87/88, I was at Ft Benning, GA. The 3rd Ranger Battalion was just formed and 10th Mountain was being relocated to Ft Drum, NY. 10th Mountain hiked the AT from GA to NY. I don’t know if the entire battalion did it or not but I imagine that was trail magic right there 😂

Spent many days at laurel Falls. Hiked up to it one day when it was minus 5 degrees. the falls were frozen and you could hear the water coming down behind the ice. What most people don't know is that if you hike up the river right side of the falls and get to the top you can follow the creek upstream until you cove to the river wide ledge that cross the river and forms a 5' falls all the way across. from here there is a small animal trail that shoots off to the left and basically follows the river upstream. When you intersect the river at last. The trail ends here. There is a water slide that cuts thru rock you can slide down. spent many days at this swimming hole with some of my friends. On several occasions I walked up the creek all the way back to the AT trail. My nephew said if he ever had to hide this is where he would come. Virgin forest on river left with 200' cliffs on river right. Those woods were my refuge for many years. I never expected to leave, but have very fond memories of Laurel Falls,

My condolences to the deceased thru hiker. I would had waited or found another route to bypass the river.
I'm Glad you Made it to the other side! ❤
That was way too dangerous to do for any thru hiker.
I value my life over short friendships, any time! 😢😮
AMC is blame for those dangerous river crossings. Money over Safety... Just plain sickening!!! 🥺😭😡😤

I am late to the party, but gosh Ranger it was such a joy to watch this 🥰 it brought back so many wonderful trail memories of the AT class of 2023 and I loved seeing some sneaks of Barbie & I in there. Thank you for sharing your story so fellow hikers like me can reminisce the amazing adventure that was the 2023 Appalachian Trail Class 💙

Plus it was also comforting to know that I wasn't the only one who struggled so much with the Whites or the first 30 miles of Maine. 😅 Glad y'all were all able to make it safely through that river crossing - we had one like that too that we had to road walk around... it was a learning moment for sure. Happy Trails and can't wait to see all your future adventures!

This was awesome!! I’m so proud of you for pushing! I grew up in “The Whites” and the trails are beautiful and insane! I lived in Lincoln/North Woodstock until 2013 and can’t count how many times I brought hikers to and from town . My car was just a little Neon but we were able to fit 5 people in the backseat and 2 others in front. 🙂

Hey Ranger,
this documentary is awesome, and makes me feel in a way it's hard to describe! I thru-hiked NoBo the AT last year, and I've met YOU at Pinkham Notch! I also hiked for more than a day with Tiger, Wild Coyote and Gandalf! Seeing you guys on the trail is like being there again, at least with part of my soul. If you are reading this... I miss you all!
