[Synopsis]

In this video, I show you how to create a hard drive in .vhd format, and make it usable on PCEM V.17.

You can do this one of two ways, the first is using a Windows 95 or Windows 98 startup floppy disk. Another way is by going into Windows 98, and going into MS-DOS mode. You can type in Fdisk and create a hard drive partition. This must be done first, or you will not see the hard drive on Windows 98. Then, you can format the hard drive in Windows 98.

Even new storage devices whether that be a mechanical 3.5" hard drive, 2.5" mechanical hard drive, 2.5" SSD, or M.2 NVMe SSD you must create a partition first. The type of partition you used in Windows 98 was MBR, and most modern computers use GPT(GUID Partition Table). MBR can still be used even today, but for Windows 11, a GPT partition is required to install it. If you have a UEFI BIOS, your storage drive must use a GPT partition.

MBR has been used from the 1980s up to the present day. More modern computers, like my Intel I7-10700KF and I7-13700KF based computers use GPT partitions and UEFI BIOS.
