Why People Still Play PS3 Online 17 Years Later...

I was a battlefield 3/4 and Gran Turismo 5/6 online player. I miss it so much 😢

Resident Evil 5 co-op was fun. But I hope the remake will actually be single player focused

I would like too correct a point you made on cross-platform gaming.
The first was the Dreamcast with PC cross-play in Quake 3 Arena and with PCs and the PS2 in Unreal Tournament. The PS3 was neither one of the first, nor even the first PlayStation to do so.
Still a cool video nonetheless, but figured I'd point this out.

I prefer the PS4, however, the PS3 is the last PlayStation console to have any personality. The PS4 is a lot like the Xbox One in that they both lost their personality and became just another "Corporate product X"
Which is why the PS3 will live on like the Xbox 360, for generations to come.
Never to the extent of the Dreamcast, GameCube, or 3DS and Vita, but they'll vastly outlive their soulless successors, even if their successors are better in every other way.

To elaborate on that last part. People still make games for the Vita, Dreamcast and 3DS, including ports and new games in general. This is less likely to happen for the PS3 or Xbox 360, but the PS3 and Xbox 360 still share in the love people have for the console itself, as opposed to modern platforms where people will simply "go where the games are".
Sony and Microsoft really need to return to the mindsets they had in the seventh generation, sticking true to your audience and the spirit of the system has worked well for Nintendo and the Switch, and would do wonders for Xbox and PlayStation too. Not just in sales, but for reputation and overall love for their systems; the things that REALLY matter

Dabbled in online on console lol. Everyone was playing starcraft or qauke 3 on PC to win 200000$ in world torunament in korea. Definetly not halo on a gay controller 😂

This is practically unfair due to games on the ps3 free to play online and the new gen you have to buy ps plus if you wanna play online.

I think the 7th gen was the peak of gaming. At that time, we had truly good graphics and still have many AAA games to play with a very good variety of games. After this generation, AAA games takes way too long to develop so they only develop big multiplayer games or genres they know they'll sell. After this gen there's many genres we don't see that often anymore.

This is a curse that the better they look like the worse they are. (almost like girls)
Jokes asside, take arma 2 and arma 3, arma 2 looking like dogshat but you can spot the enemy from far away.
Now on arma 3 you can't see the enemy because he is standing behind the leafs of a bush.
AI doesn't see leafs so instead of having a fair fight, the AI no scopes you from 5 clicks away.
When you turn this to reality, in reality you would spot that dude easily so it doesn't increase realism it only add's frustration.
Now again you can turn everything down to minimum settings and those leafs disappear, so a player on low settings has a advantage over high settings.
Devs don't care, they only care about having the best looking game for the press and the pre sales and then repeat the cycle.

PS Home was by far my favorite. It was my first real introduction to a multiplayer game, you could meet your friends, hang out, meet new people, play minigames, i absolutely loved it. Somehow it just screamed ''this is the future'' especially since i only knew PS2 singleplayer games before back then. There are still videos out there showcasing the final minutes until the servers shut down and its heartbreaking to see the people typing ''I will miss you all''. PS3 was truly peak gaming era.

Sony shutting down ps3 online will be a good thing for most because I'm 100% sure a team will get online back up and running like they did with ps2 and xbox then you can start taking modded ps3's online and a free shop will mean more game downloads so more people to play with.

I had xbox after ps1 but I never thought to take it online I mostly played PC for online games. But man when I got a ps3 and played cod 4 online for the first time it was crazy to see how far console gaming has come since the 90's. BF games where so good too having everything around you come down. PS3 and 360 days where some great times for online gaming now it's being pushed into a pay for everything and pay by the hour to play bullshit that's going to start with GTA 6.

Great console! I grew up with it and still have fond memories. Unfortunately my ps3 isnt here anymore but thx to rpcs3 i can revisit old games on pc

i loved the ps3 don't get me wrong it was a blast i brought one in 2010 i also had a pc that was win xp that i built in 2006 fast forward a few years and i got a ps4 prior to buying the ps3 i loved not having to play to play online but when that all changed is when i said no way am i playing this anymore, i like free things as much as the next person but i purchased a ps5 yesterday and my hopes for it are very slim being it as good as my current pc i will find out later today, i even had a xbox 360 that i used to play alot paying to play on that thing was a nightmare i got the free trials and just them but my fave game was either call of duty world at war or modern warfare 2 deffo then i got suckerd into playing phantasy star universe online it was so fun but going to the sequels on pc and the ammount of lack of optimisation on the pc the new call of dutys suck and phantasy star online 2 new genesis, never have i been dissapointed in my whole life to be a gamer at this point the only good thing that came out of last years games is Last train home, kingpin reloaded ran great for me at 1440p hdr and payday 3 but that game needs optimisation really badly.

I still play Warhawk on the psONE servers every now and then. I still think it's a great game that still holds up, but the amount of cheaters/modders is getting out of control. I wish it had a port or a remaster, but Warhawk seems to indefinitely be stuck on the PS3.

People who used the PS3/Xbox 360 during its heyday are still nostalgic about the console. Most of their childhood or adolescence was spent playing in multiplayer lobbies, or keeping in contact through party chats where everyone would be completely ripping into each other just for the sake of it. It was fun.

To sum it up quickly, the consoles have really stood the test of time and haven't aged as badly as you would expect, considering their respective ages. I really like my 7th gen consoles and still occasionally bring out my PS3.

Contentious debate: I don't use my Xbox 360 very often anymore, as the controller sucks (sorry). Really, people give the 360 controller too much credit. The D-Pad really sucks, the battery housing always feels loose even with a brand new controller (so it would often randomly disconnect when playing or setting it down on a table) and the PS3 has better exclusives, in my opinion. Even if you don't think the PS3 has better exclusives, you can't deny that there are more of them and the quality of these exclusives is second to none. And may I just add, I was a diehard Xbox fanboy from 2012 until I got my PS3 in 2015. I would admit that my first console was a PS2 in 2005 (I was 5).

Just pulled my PS3 out of retirement, selling my PS4 and ditching PS Plus, fuck Sony and there price increases.

My favourite PS3 title to play online was Mod Nation Racers. I wish we had a PS5 sequel. I think it would be to Sony's benefit to remaster some of their PS3 multiplayer titles for PS4/5 as free-to-play titles. Some games like Killzone and Starhawk didn't meet their full potential on the platform and could experience a resurge in interest if made easily available on modern platforms.

As a pc gamer it surprises me that console gamers have to pay a subscription fee to play online multiplayer. Imagine purchasing a game at full price but then playstation/xbox comes and says, "sorry, to play multiplayer you have to pay extra every month" its outrageous. I hope sometime in the future Sony and Microsoft gets sued and make online multiplayer free

I got my boyfriend a PS3 specifically so he can play Warhawk again. Tonight he played it for the first time since before we met almost a decade ago. The lobby was active, there were players in the middle of a game. It was so much fun to watch. My favorite console has been entirely abandoned by its creator and is left to the small modding community to keep alive, so I was happy that the ps3 is still alive and active
