Finding the value to make a perfect square trinomial

Can't we use discriminant's nature for solving the problem?
Since the quadratic expression has to be a perfect square, It needs to have equal roots. So, It's discriminant has to be equal to zero.
So, D = 0
B² -4AC = 0
(-9)² -4(1)c = 0
c = 81/4

this is more useful than an hour of my teacher nagging me

(-9/2) becomes 81/4 and not (-81)/2 because (-9)^2=81 since -9 * -9 is always positive. If it's -9^2 without brackets there's a -1 hidden in front and at the end the number is negative.
