How to Inspect and Replace Strut Mounts on Your Car

It's the moaning while tightening up bolts, for me xD.

Hey Scotty, how about a rear strut mount? I think mine seems to be making this awful high pitch squeal at highway speeds over 70 on bumps. Can you help me confirm its that sound?

Or....just replace the entire assembly with a new spring already attached....much easier, and safer !!

And you must get the tracking checked as its sure to be out.

Always use new cotter pins in the castle nuts, and get a new front end alignment after doing front and or rear suspension work.

Great video, I'm dealing with strut and mount replacement right now on my '92 Dodge Shadow. Boy, it sure must be nice not to have to deal with rust belt corrosion on all the parts.

Do not atempt this yourself, be VERY VERY caferul with compressing springs I know a guy who smashed the front of his face in when the spring popped out.

Where does the rubber go that comes with the new upper strut mounts? On top of the spring?

Right there, runs drives good... Jump on it in today's market.

But it needs a strut mount or something else also, test drive has inconsistent weird changing noises.
Also the air flow selector switch didn't switch and is stuck on defrost.

Weird pax side front seat seams blown out. Automatic door non function warning light on.

Can a bad strut top mount cause your car to pull when driving? Also can it cause a twang from the spring? My springs are fine by the way.

Why does this joker never mention torque specs, or how dangerous spring compressors are

Get a Haynes or Chiltons manual for your car or even the original factory service manual if you can. Use a torque wrench and properly torque the bolts/nuts to the right torque so you don't have to worry about breaking them or them falling off while going down the road.

...and one should mention that before removing the strut mark the position of the camber angel on the lower mount in order to reinstall the new strut in the same position as before.

Is it mandatory to let that car down like that? I did and my strut popped right outta hood. Damn it.

what happend is you install the mount and the arrow is not align?

hey i replaced one on my mother inlaws car and when ytou turn left and right it sounds and feels like the spring moves it is seated in right place but make a slipping noise or something i had to oput it back in vice to twist the top mount to make botttom line up

Aren't you supposed to preload the shock suspension by lowering the car back off of the jack then torque all the bolts?

My stupid dodge grand caravan struts have a nut on top that is located inside strut mount and can't be removed unless you hold another nut still

What happens if you don't line the arrow with top mount ?

I had my front struts changed about 2 years or 3 years ago. They only changed the front struts, but they used the original upper strut mounts. I am getting a clunking noise over bumps and a place I took it too recommends the upper strut mounts be replaced. They are also recommending a 4-way alignment. Is an alignment really that necessary if the upper strut mounts are replaced correctly?

You didn't talk about the torque wrench! Fail us, you can't just "tighten" it down! lmao
