Talented international artist Gillian Rau was born in Ndola, Zambia, Africa. Gillian travelled through much of that fascinating continent before settling amongst the sugar cane fields of Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa where she continued to develop her deep love for Africa. Her paintings capture the essence of her country, and the vibrancy of the people and wildlife. She was honoured to receive a Canadian Residency Visa based solely on her artistic accomplishments. She and her family immigrated to the beautiful Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, Canada where they now reside.

Gillian's preferred medium of oils reflects the subtle strength, and beautiful sunlit qualities that characterize her art. Her works are enjoyed in private collections in Australia, South Africa and Canada.

Always an artist, Gillian was awarded her first art bursary at the Durban College for Arts and Technology at the age of 13 years and has since exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions throughout Kwa-Zulu Natal, and British Columbia, Canada. She was the guest speaker at the opening of several art exhibitions in South Africa. Gillian studied oils for 15 years under the guidance of internationally recognized Master Artist, Christopher Haw.

Gillian's Canadian Immigration Visa came into effect in 2010 and she and her family arrived and settled in the Okanagan Valley in the spring of that year. Since her arrival in Canada she has been honoured to exhibit in several art shows in British Columbia including the very popular Lake Country 'Artwalk' in 2011 and 2012, enjoyed by some 7000 visitors annually.

Gillian is always happy to share her knowledge, teaching private and group classes and conducting workshops, helping many Grade 12 students to achieve their educational goals. She also accepts commissions which comprise a good portion of her work.

Gillian describes herself as a Realist-Impressionist and continues to enjoy the endless subtle beauty of her chosen medium of oils.
