Why I'm Returning My Lenovo Legion 5 Pro for the Asus Zephyrus G15 (Gaming Benchmarks & Performance)

I know I’m a bit hard on the Legion here (it’s still an awesome laptop!) but keep in mind y’all that the title of the video is “Why I’m Returning The Legion 5 Pro”. A lot of these things are just my preference and you might think completely opposite to me, and that’s okay. This video comes from the perspective of me as a G15 owner who was expecting to be blown away by the performance of the L5P based on the insane amount of hype surrounding it. I have my preferences and to me it was a bit underwhelming for the loss of premium features and portability. I prefer the G15 after testing both so I’m keeping it. These are all just my observations after spending weeks using both laptops. Now stop hating, lol.

I don't understand people not liking numpads. Numpads are so important to me. But they are really helpful when doing data analysis and such

Josh I have an occasion to buy : Legion 5 Pro i7-11800h 360 32gb 1T for 1300$ or Zephyrus G15 R7-6900h 3080 32GB 1T for 1625$ . Laptop will be used mainly stationnary, is it worth to pay +300$ for Zephyrus in this case ?

G15 might be the best laptop among these but I don't trust ASUS in my country (India)! Service is dog s***! My previous laptop was Legion Y530 which I used for 5 years before selling it. My only options are Acer Predator or Legion lineup.

I bought a 5 Pro last year and nothing but disappointment. System runs to hot all the time even in boost mode. WiFi was not intel? Just numerous problems and the fans are horid they are about as wide as a toothpick, clean them every week. Mine has Ryz 5900, 32 GB memory, 1tb SSD RTX 3080. The whole package. If you play MMO's FFXIV or GW2 etc in 30 minutes you cant leave your hand on the keyboard it's so hot. I've seen it hit 40 Celsius..

You expected 40% performance increase for 40 more Watts? At best it would be about 33%, as that is the difference; if you know how to calculate percentages. And sadly more wattage doesn't directly translate to more power. I understand that it's your preferences that are in play here, but you can't just make up unrealistic expectations in order to justify your opinion.

I wouldn't touch another Lenovo laptop after the terrible trash Yoga Pro 9i

am very late with the review but seeing some Legion 5 pro users get mad just cause their laptop wasnt considered better is kinda hilarious. both laptops have their pros and cons and i dont see why people need to get aggresive with promoting their own device

Man, I can't stress enough how helpful videos like these are. I especially like that you're touching on things that seemingly nobody talks about, but are really important when you're actually planning on buying and keeping the device.

Amazing content dude. Please I needed some advice on whether I should get the Legion 5 pro(2021) or the Asus ROG strix G15 advantage edition. I'm a student but also do much gaming during my off school time. I'll really be grateful if you or any expert can help.

Might I offer a constructive criticism. I think it would be completely fair if you compare thermals and also showing the performance of the laptops at the time of the recording of thermals. The legion might be overclocked/performance mode and the G15 might not be on the equivalent power mode. Showing the in game fps would also help a lot as it's a quick indication that both machines are running on full power, because on my experience, limiting the fps of a heavy game whether artificially or unintentionally by any setting drastically affects the temps.

This is just so to clear any suspicion of anyone of the hawks that might not be too happy of the results here, and also for fairness' sake.

@joshcravey9728 I'm considering these two machines right now. I'm moving to another country so thinking to sell my two laptops and buy just a new one. The portability of the G15 is very appealing to me. However, after one year do you have any problem with the G15?
Currently I have a ROG strix that I had to replace the WIFI card, because with the stock Mediatek card, whenever I turn on Bluetooth the Wifi speed is severely reduced.

@Josh Cravey i was gonna buy a laptop in best buy but here was a payement problem. Next week i find this laptop for less money since it was on sale, i really don’t understand laptops much but this one was a 3060 not a 3070. It was still all good tho. In robloxit ran 138+ fps with an unlocker since the luncher maxes at 60. In other games that in downloading soon like forza. I seen many videos and im amazed that it was running about 100+ I know really Greatful that payment problem happened since i got this absolute beast. I started seeing reviews yesterday and even tho there is many competition for other laptops. This laptop was having many better performance and is on bar with many laptops. I love your channel and I will see more of your reviews on other laptops or maybe this one. Thank you for making this amazing, well detailed review.

I recently bought the standard 2021 legion 5 with a ryzen 7 and rtx 3070 for £1100 and my friend has the g15 with a ryzen 9 and rtx 3080 which he paid £2500 for last year and im sorry but its just not worth the extra £1000, yeah its lighter but how often do you hold the laptop while playing games and if you cant carry a 3kg laptop which is basically 3 bags of sugar the there's something wrong, but the battery is better you say, i say when do you game without the charger plugged in, then there the performance ive not come across any game my laptop cant run that his can, mine actually plays Hogwarts legacy far better than his on average 10-15 better fps and we all know Hogwarts is a performance mess, i guess im just saying don't fall for magnesium, fingerprint sensors and pretty looks not when its an extra £1000 or more sometimes it's definitely not worth it.

why hook up to an external monitor if you are going to say so much bs about the lenovo?. what's the point of a gaming if it need to be plugged to an external monitor to get max performance? If anybody of you reading this comment, please if you want a gaming laptop please buy the lenovo one.

past 1 year and this legio vs g15 is a joke... legion need to render 1600p vs 1440p and have worst processor ( 5800h vs 5900hs) and legion still almost win... and realistically you can play on legion with mux swith and g15 you need to buy a monitor or have one... xD

kind of strange to compare and keep the native resolution and say this is how its going to be used but then you give the Zeph another bump by letting it bypass the need for a mux by doing external output. You literally gave the G15 every chance to look good. Also i get it 1080p can looked stretched but that can be fixed by setting black bars or atleast using 1920x1200... but honestly if you were just using a external monitor for the test.... why not just use 1080p. Skewed comparison 100%. ps: soldered ram doesnt bother u lul

Soldered RAM on G15 is the deal breaker, imagine RAM issues and US$1K to replace the motherboard, therefore the Legion wins the comparison in this bias video.
Avoid ASUS like the plague, then again avoid Dell and HP too.

On the thermals section: Of course, what were you hoping for? legion 5's tdp is 40w more than the g15. On mux switch, it's not the same to turn on mux than to plug in an external monitor. The latter is better. On QC, that didn't happen to the lenovo legion, did it? So going around minimizing it like that is a little biased on you.
