Fuel Additives & Injector Cleaner - Explained

I’ve been using GumOut on my 150,000 miles car with only a Direct Injection engine.

After watching this video I’m glad it’s not just a placebo effect but an actual result for using the fuel cleaner.

This video really helped me bring back the MPG and mostly better engine performance of my car especially when you also watch and follow his italian tune up test vid which I really like because you no longer need to rev the engine high gear per gear, just cruise in that specific rpm for a while and the heat just burns those deposits. :)

Excuse my ignorance but After adding fuel additive does it dirty your oil and so best to do an oil change ?

Does this additive help stabilize gasoline? I do not drive very much and worry about my gas decomposing to a sludge that won't work any longer as gasoline. What are your thoughts on the stabilization aspects of this additive?

Which Additives are good for Diesel fuel and diesel injectors? I am so confused between "Hotshot's", "Luqui Moly" and "Amsoil" to use with my 2016 Audi A7 TDI 3.0.

Can you do a test on fuel system cleaner additives. I’ve been using the gumout all in one for years and would like to know if it’s a waste of money. Thanks

What happen if you put too much fuel treatment more than what is recommended? I put 3 cans where one can will treat up to 20gallons. My truck has 36 gallons capacity.

Jason, is it safe to use ethanol-free gasoline in an engine like a Toyota Corolla that says that it needs to be ten to fifteen percent ethanol gasoline?

Good quality gasoline will only retard the build up. Direct injection engine are sensitive to injector being dirty. I would say use a treatement every year even with quality gasoline. I speak with experience. Or else you will see your gas mileage decrease over the years.

Using gasoline with ethanol creates a sponge for water. No ethanol, no water.

i don't understand you used concentrated injector cleaner for the experiment whereas its diluted in a tank of fuel so diluted more than 100-200 fold

The major problem with these off the shelf cleaners is the carrier oil. It's made up 80-90% low grade oil, plus the additive line PEA. What ever benefit the PEA cleaner does is negated by the carbon build-up from the oil in fuel mixture. Especially bad for GDI engines. Agree, just use premium Top Tier fuel.

I am not sure how pea works using fuel additives help with direct injection.

I'm in the middle of an ongoing lawsuit with "Gumout". I drank a bottle of the stuff and it made me deathly ill and I was hospitalized and almost died. The labeling is misleading. It looks like "Cumout" and talks on the label about cleansing your system. I found God and didn't want to be tempted by the trappings of lust and intimacy. I believed this "drink" was made to cleanse the system of ejaculate and make you pure. And I'm sure im not the only one who's been misled by their shady labeling. Then I found out it was a G and called Gumout. My boy swallowed his chewing gum about a year later and I didn't want it to be stuck in his gut for 7 years. So I said, let's try that Gumout again and this time for the recommended thing. Getting the gum out. Now my boys an invalid and I'm pissed!!!!!

(My english isnt that good) Well i tried liqui moly diesel injector cleaner in my vw passat 2.0 tdi ( 2011) and i made a mistake by adding the additive in half a tank , i thought its normal but no , the first 5 to 10 kms went noraml but than i started hearing lot of knocking sounds from the injectors and the car started idling rough , i turned it off nd it wont start just cranking not firing up , after many tries i managed to turn it on nd took it right ( injectors still knocking) i got a full tank of fuel nd drove for like 20 mins at High rpms ( 3k 3.5k) after that injectors stopped knocking nd the car turned to run fine , second day it was driving like new , if anyone understands what happened pls explain

Ran two lots of injector cleaner through my 2.5 Diesel engine. I’ve been running it 20k it’s a good lump but I don’t know the history before I fitted it. It’s definitely made a difference on mpg going from average of 31 to around 33.5. And it feels slightly better. Next step is new injectors but as an interim measure for twenty quid it’s been worth it.

You reached a great conclusion. Newer engines are high precision and don't have as much waste and the waste is where the carbon buildup comes from. Simply put, newer engines don't need the additives but older engines do. Things like Fuel injector will eventually build up carbon, (80,000 miles typically) but they are also in the routine maintenance schedule for replacement at that time. So, once again, if you follow routine maintenance, additives are not needed.

I believe the flow rate of the gas/additive mixture plus heat make all the difference vs soaking in a beaker at room temp. Tough to do this comparison unless you start with two of the exact same year car with similar deposits.
