This is about what I understand about the progression here:
—Academic culture understanding of post-irony as any kind of "higher irony" (this was big in russian meme communities for a while and probably before this something something david foster wallace)
—The Philosopher's Meme (using terms like meta-ironic and post-ironic to describe trends in memes, as well as codifying post-ironic and meta-ironic as higher "layers" of irony)
—My video (mainly just codifying meta-irony as a form of ambiguous irony, I did not change anything about post-irony other than differentiating it from meta-irony and clarifying post-irony as a "return to sincerity" based on a wikipedia page which doesn't even say what I remember it saying 2 years ago l o l)
—Other videos / articles expanding on the layering system
—Idubbbz vid (circle theory)
Probably missing some info but this isn't a history that's been formally recorded anywhere so let me know if you can fill in the blanks
I use the word "coin" in this video wrong, what I meant to say was in the original video I specifically defined meta-irony as the kind of ambigous irony that idubbbz is talking about in his vid. I did not invent the words post-irony & meta-irony or ironic layering. I did however invent irony.
