As a History Nerd I deeply appreciate all of the work that is being done looking into the history of karate and martial arts in general that you and Patrick McCarthy and other notables are doing and have done to help us see our own art from different perspectives and the relations that arts have towards each other. Keep sharing all of these insights. It helps others open their minds to different applications all depending on the range and angle in relation to the attacker.
ОтветитьThis stuff is so Jiu Jitsu - I love it and I love the Chinese influence.
Monkey steels the fruit - zenkutsu dachi followed by a strike - gedan barai to the groin.
Old Man Carrying a stick - Juji gatame etc.
All of the moves in the Bubishi are also in Tai Chi. So even though Karate and Tai Chi look very different on the outside, they have the same ancestors.
ОтветитьThe elbow lock at 5.00 looks suspiciously similar to the "Nukite" in Kanku Dai, which can be a follow up to the shuto uke, which, as we know, is a side control technique. I realize that while watching one of Rokas videos, while he was doing some sort of triagle lock on a Sambo guy, and i remember it being similar to something i saw once in some videos of yours, and i thought: "damn, wait a minute..". I learnt shuto uke as a side clinch that follows up a sprawl from Antny Vinicio sensei at a seminar in 2019, but i've never knew the final move, the "nukite". Until now ;)
Oh, and speaking of Kanku Dai/Sho, at 8.18 your single leg takedown is most likely the application of the "pointing down shuto uke"
Podrian poner subtitulos en castellano?? 🙏🙏
ОтветитьToday was a rest day, but I studied all the day your videos, and these, drived me to others bunkai videos. Today my karate improves too much. Today I was sick to my back, but the pain was complety gone.😂😂😂
ОтветитьI got the bubishi and from my opinion it is the best karate book because is not only about karate
ОтветитьHi Jesse, I think Studying a complete form of Japanese Taijutsu/Jujitsu First and Okinawan Karate then, makes the the bunkai of the Karate Kata much more easier; at least this is my experience
ОтветитьSuper interesting, the bubishi is the biggest unknown treasure
ОтветитьGreat video!!! The real and original Karate.
ОтветитьAll of these Karate moves are also aiki jiu jitsui moves. I'm not saying anybody stole from anybody else, as with many forms from aikido, judo and Karate, some moves overlap styles. A whole martial art could be made just from the moves that overlap from these three styles.
ОтветитьAs a use of force instructor I've performed and taught that elbow lock so many times and never known its origin. Thank you 👍
ОтветитьThis to me is real grass roots karate unarmed combat training. By the way your English is as good as your Karate.
ОтветитьThe first thing that i have think is “magificent”
Ответить武mo= martial 備 bei=ready 志 chi=book/note; quite like kata
ОтветитьGreat content as always Jesse. However I would hesitate to say Bubishi is the "holy bible" of karate. I am a practitioner of traditional Okinawan karate, and I'm also Chinese. So you can imagine I have great respect and admiration for both cultures, and I do. My school takes pride of our traditions and roots from Shaolin temple. But we have also parted ways with Chinese kungfu for so long. Things have changed and karate practitioners have developed a system, style and way of their own.
To me I think the Bubishi is great to read and refer to, but it's not what we do as part of or a routine of our karate.
Just sharing my thoughts. Can't wait to see your new content.
The techniques are required for kata
ОтветитьYou talk too much
ОтветитьYou see these moves in the Shorin ryu kata Naihanchi and the Uechi ryu kata Seisan.
ОтветитьIt looks alot, like Stand up Jiu- Jitsu!!!
ОтветитьVariation. After you do the elbow strike, perform a tettsui to the groin and an uraken to the face.
ОтветитьGood info
ОтветитьInteresting
Bubishi is very good book
monkey grabs fruit was all i needed to see to know this bubishi meant business
ОтветитьKururunfa has a lot of this flow and bunkai the southern influences are clearly there. Thank you Jesse-San
Will be practicing this drill at the dojo
Is a punch to squash urinary bladder.
ОтветитьAwesome sensei
ОтветитьVery good... All Best!
ОтветитьHi Jesse. Consider to meet with Krzysztof Neugebauer from Poland and made some video with him. He is traditional karate master who practised under Nishiyama master.
ОтветитьLove the video!
ОтветитьVery Nice techniques from Bubishi. Thanks a million for teaching us these techniques. I will practice them all.
ОтветитьOnce again awesome...these basic principles I've learned within systems I've trained. Reminds me of flowing drills, attack, counter, then counter the counter.... just awesome old school book has this type of flowing.. karate or any martial art is suppose be 1st self defense. Keep yourself, family and then strangers safe.. Not sport 1st, the sport helps w timing, balance, distance, rhythm, posture, to understand the movement. We suppose be the sheepdogs, willing to protect those who dont have training or cant protect themselves....that what we as martial artist are striving for, in my opinion.
ОтветитьAs always ... tremendous!!! Keep it up Jesse!
ОтветитьAs always ... tremendous!!! Keep it up Jesse!
ОтветитьThanks for showing me this I'm really glad my old school focused on the bunkai in the heian katas for me and the other students in class since that dojo didn't work out I'm glad you have these self defense techniques my favorite is broken arrow it's a white belt move but it can be very effective
ОтветитьAwsome vide0
ОтветитьUsing Karate, you can defend yourself without picking up a weapon.
Ответитьthe first one...
ОтветитьThis is, Jesse-san, perhaps the most clarifying single instruction on karate and in the end, self defense, I have ever seen. I practice Kyokushin and there is so much to be learnt by studying the history, the development and the different approaches to karate, and you have done so much to create awareness about our art. I bow with a most sincere ”osu”. Domo arigato.
ОтветитьThanks a lot.
ОтветитьVery direct and effective techniques, thank you Jesse for this hint. Do I find that Bubishi text on Amazon ? I mean I wish I bought the same book you show in this video. Could you please give more infos about Author, and publishing house ?
ОтветитьGreat book. 💪
ОтветитьBeautiful, this is simply beautiful. There really is not much more I can say but I think you know what I mean anyway. Past, present, just becoming one, it is intelligent and efficient, so that you come to think there is not really something as "the past", just people who happened to live while we weren't around that is all...but there spirit suddenly becomes very much alive as if the Bubishi is functioning as a bridge through time.
Thank you for this video🙏
I must admit i loved your description of the testeronis that made me chuckle ive heard them called many things but never heard this lol 🤣🤣🤣
ОтветитьBrilliant video thanks 😊
ОтветитьThanks for the video! Only recently began watching your videos. I remember taking a karate course for a college credit waaaaay back and learning the technique you demonstrated in number 2. I remember because the sensei pointed out the position of the elbow was important when doing the lock. If it is in the wrong position, the pressure isn't in the right spot and isn't effective. Your presentation is both educational and entertaining. Your enthusiasm and love for karate and learning is truly infectious!
ОтветитьVery nice Sensei
ОтветитьThe bubishi is very confusing as one technique does not flow into the other, its all over the place.
ОтветитьVery good insight and knowledge. Thanks for sharing.
